Why so? Attitude, lack of remorse, seemed evil, or overall-general asshattery?

A useful member of society is no longer a risk, and also no longer a cost. It costs 35-50k annually to incarcerate someone for start. Also, there is a reason its called a penitentiary., not a warehouse. All that said, this thread is an example that we can have a civilized discussion of these issues. Maybe it should go to PARF, but I think part of the problem is that discourse is more effective if you have to keep the gloves on a bit.

Not sure what your point is regarding the term "penitentiary." Yes, it is expensive. That is why I am a proponent of the death penalty. You are talking to the wrong person. I have been nothing but civil and relatively polite in OT (at least for quite a long time). Particularly considering the level of constant attack I must endure by posting here. I much prefer a reasoned argument than the name-calling that is prevalent in OT. We almost always have civilized discourse here (until the same old OT folks bring their childish personal attacks). They do not seem particularly interested in this thread yet. Only a couple are posting here. Give them time. Probably just looking for an opening.

Some were decent kids that could have a future. Sadly, way too many were exactly as you describe although maybe not so much on the evil part. And they thought acting that way was cool.
