If they’re already willing to ship books out there maybe a good amount of money to be earned selling on Amazon.

There are two stores in my area that sell used books, both owned by very knowledgeable folks.

They will both come and give you a wholesale price...not always a good story, btw: Books are like stamps in terms of value. Special sells, the rest are mulch.

In lieu of that, most libraries will take books in mass, I've done it and you (they) can write it off. I donated at least 1000 hardbacks to the local library for their book sale day.

50 cents per.

tell the USPS you're sending books and they give you a cheaper rate.

Yep, we used to have a TON of books. When we downsized, we downsized our book "collection." I think we took most of them to "Half Price Books." You don't get much money, but you do get some.

You might take a bunch of pics of the books' spines and put up somewhere, so people can see what they might want to buy. If I were you, I'd also say that shipping is at buyer's expense and requires a minimum of $___ purchase (like $200). This will be work, but if they get enough sales to book lovers, it may net more than the per-pound offer a used bookstore will pay.

I've sold a lot of books to Powells Books - they take maybe 1/10th of the books and reject the rest, you end up carting 9/10th to Goodwill. "Newish books" tend not to get accepted. For what they accept, they pay at best 1/3 of the price they might be able to re-sell the book for. The point is, you can bring in six boxes of books and leave with $30 and five books.

Book rate IS cheaper but it means it gets delivered when they get around to it.

You might be able to use an app like BookScouter to find the ones worth selling.

Damn. My daughter just sold a ton of books. Got something like $30.

These were newly purchased. Perfect shape. Not really a sellers market.

• Last swap meet I went to (2019) I was talking with the fella who has the book table. He had his Vanagen full of all the Porsche literature you want to see, but no one's buying all the stuff we all filled our shelves with. He had a first edition of The Unfair Advantage, so he made at least one sale that day, but the internet has put his life as a reseller on the slow track.

• When mom and dad needed to get the house cleared out because they didn't need it anymore, the contents of dozens of bookshelves were sent to the landfill after trying every avenue we could come up with to get them in the hands of readers.

Pretty sad, really. Gutenberg didn't see this one coming.

And if they "lose" the item, you're screwed as you can't insure this transaction.
