I think during our 13 years in Westport, Connecticut, from 63-76, we may have had a white Christmas or two.

From 1977 on, we’ve been in the south and are lucky to get snow at all.

Being a SoCal native I did relish a white Christmas growing up. All the Christmas themed movies and cartoons pushed it. I was fortunate to have rented a cabin in the mountains and got a snow fall Christmas Eve and day. It was excellent! That said I prefer a mild winter, I’m in North county San Diego right now posting this in my driveway with bare feet and a long sleeve T-shirt and jeans, just had a 200 mile motorcycle ride into the East county. If I want snow I can drive 90 minutes to get it. Temperature here now is 55F, perfect!

As a kid, my Christmases alternated between snowy (Cleveland) and tropical (Barranquilla). In an unexpected hybrid of the two, I happened to hear a thing on the radio yesterday about how San Juan, PR had snow flown in for snowball fights on Christmas every year for some years in the ‘50s. Obviously it did not last long. I enjoyed the snowy Christmases but of course it’s easy when you’re a kid because it’s all play. Obviously it can be snowy in Chicago but I spend my Christmases in Atlanta and it’s going to be ~65F, which suits me just fine.

Gonna be 67 here on Christmas .... probably not gonna snow .

Which reminds me ... a few years back, I was wearing shorts when I caught a buncha bass in one of my ponds on Christmas day after several warm days and watching the pond "wake up" from being dormant.... that just ain't right either but it was a hoot

Good thing it is neither snow nor presents that make the season special.

Merry Christmas!

We got an inch last night. Just enough to make trees and lawns pretty.

No white Christmas for me this year. It's 10:00pm here, and it's still 38 degrees outside. Some spots are so foggy you can barely see 20 feet in front of you, and it's supposed to drop below freezing soon. The roads are all wet, and I fear we will have a repeat of the I-94 pileup tonight, only this time on I-90.

We normally have snow on the ground this time of year, in fact we had about 6" or so a couple of weeks ago, then we had the record breaking 69 degree day, and then the derecho that night. All the snow is gone except for piles from plowing.

By the way, went to my brother-in-law's place tonight. Like I said, foggy, wet and hard to see. I'm trying to find a place to park and I turn into an apartment complex to turn around, and a car follows me in. As I'm looking for a place to turn around the car behind speeds past me and parks, the woman gets out and flips me the bird as she's walking to her building. Merry Christmas to you too.

In 2010 we wanted a white Christmas and drove to Mammoth on Wednesday where we rented a cabin at Tamarack Lodge. Rained like nobody's business the whole way to Lone Pine where it turned to snow and kept snowing. Ten feet from Wednesday to Sunday.

Here's what it looked like when we got there....

Me bringing our luggage and supplies to the cabin...

And the next morning going into town with the sun shining..

Merry Christmas fellow Pelicans!

Predicted to be 87+ here, so that means shorts and a/c blasting for Christmas gettogether.

66° F here right now. Not normal. Mother nature is going to make us pay for this, I am sure of that.

So in summary all the happy White Christmas posts have to do with kids. All the bitter ones are dealing with snow as adults. I get that.
But here are two pictures (since we like pictures) of snow helping kids and adults. 1. keeping the neighborhood kids busy all day hollowing out an igloo. 2. A snowy backstop so we don't have to chase soccer balls.
