Pump it full of water and watch it roll over and sink. Big problem.

Better tow it to a port and deal with it in shallow water. (easy to say this while sitting a home in front of a computer. )

Lithium-Ion

https://www.yahoo.com/tech/m/89f92b55-1de3-3d87-a4ec-9226cf1bc6c6/lithium-ion-batteries-are.html

The cargo ship Felicity Ace is aflame from bow to stern with a lithium-ion battery fire that can’t be put out with water alone. The ship left Germany on Feb. 10 and headed for the US with about 4,000 Porsches, Bentleys and other luxury cars aboard, and some of those were electric vehicles. It’s not clear if the batteries contributed to the fire starting in the first place—a greasy rag in a lubricant-slicked engine room or a fuel leak are the usual suspects in ship fires—but the batteries are keeping the flames going now.

Just think of all those 'zero emissions' EV's burning and pumping toxic hydrofluric acid (among other really nasty gases) into the environment.

Add that to the environmental impact of the mining for materials and manufacturing

It didn't make it

The Felicity Ace, the cargo ship that caught fire while carrying thousands of brand new Volkswagen, Porsche, and Lamborghini vehicles, sunk Tuesday morning, according to a press statement.

Wonder how deep it is. This will lead to new shipping rules for e-cars.

I wonder how many cargo ships are setup with fire suppression specifically for EV cars or large shipments of lithium ion batteries . My guess is very few/not enough .

250 miles out from land...I'll bet it is plenty deep.

The ship sank in an area where the water is about 3,000 meters (9,842 feet) deep, the Portuguese Navy said in an emailed statement. There’s some wreckage at the site and a small stain of oily residue that’s being dispersed by water cannons from the tug boats. A navy ship with divers and clean-up equipment will return to the area once it’s resupplied.
