When we got married I was working as a machinist so no ring for me. @10 years later I'd changed jobs and my wife said we could afford a ring for me, so we got one. First day of wearing it I was out washing the car before heading over to the in-law's place to meet up with the wife and kids. As I went to reach into the bucket for the sponge I realized the ring had come off my finger. I was on our front lawn looking around for it in a panic when the postman walks up and asked what I was doing. Told him I was looking for my new wedding ring. He says 'Oh, you mean this one?' as he reaches down for it in the grass. Saved my bacon that day for sure. I got it resized so it fit a little better. I have to remember to take it off when working on the car or with equipment that could catch it and do bodily harm. 42 years later this year, I think she knows I'm solid.

I was at one of those coin op car washes with my dad when he was on home on leave, I was maybe 12 or so. My dad had soap on his hand and shook it to get it off, we heard the ring bounce and never could find it.....

Lost the first one while water skiing, the rope handle pulled it right off my finger! Found out you loose one ring size when swimming in cooler water. Second one got bent up a bit, and was scratched up. So since I have a bunch of scrap gold rings from when we had our antique shop, I grabbed another one that fit and that is the one I have been wearing for the last 8 or so years.

I forgot to add, like a lot of people in this thread, when I got married I was auto mechanic and they had just introduced gloves at GM. The ring would rip the gloves.

I am not even married and I wear a ring that is a symbol of the relationship I've been in, for 3 years.

BTW, I was perfectly happy with my $10 Walmart titanium ring (really $30 because I bought 3 to find the one that fit and felt best), but my wife didn't think it was a good representation of our union so she bought me >$10 titanium wedding ring.

I nearly wore a wedding ring. I'd dated Ingrid Van Dyke for years and was about to ask her to marry me. But unbeknown to me she was having a full on relationship with my best friend Tim Bird at the same time. Umm, she's still with him so maybe it was a good thing after all. Who knows. So I never got to wear the ring.

So then we commissioned a few neat new things in palladium from a dude here in Santa Fe and they've held up well. I knew I shouldn't have fallen for that whole "...dumb idiot's in grad school - let's sell him that 32 karat (you know the higher the number the better the gold, kid)" sales pitch at the mall jeweler back in the '90s. ![]() Ti band myself, and as a powerpoint jockey I have fewer worries of it jacking my finger up on a bad day. It's not even my mouse hand!

I must admit: I forget my ring 50% of the time. I take off my rings at the end of the day. Sometimes, as I run out the door for work, I forget. Doesn't mean anything. Married to the best man in the world. Just forgetful.
Hubby, on the other hand, only takes it off when he works out.

Always took mine off at work everyday. Aircraft and jewlery dont mix. Since then I rarely take it off. I dont think after 37 years it really matters if I wear it or not.

I had one until I lost it in a car race in 1975. I was driving a corvette with the top down and in a sharp turn, whoff, it came off. Never saw it again. Then I wore my father's ring for the next 30 plus years. This march, on our 50th anniversary my wife gave me another ring. I will wear it until I pass.

I never wore mine while I was working on the tools.
Since changing jobs, I only take it off when I am doing something that I shouldn't have it on for. Happy to wear it, it doesn't bother me at all. Plus the chick magnet thing previously mentioned....

No. I was in a career where wearing a ring could be problematic. Case on point, my twin brother, (same profession) got a ring from his girlfriend. Met me for lunch before work and showed it to me. I said, "Yeah, that's nice; do not wear it at work." That night, he had to go over a cyclone fence and his ring caught on the top of the cyclone and skinned his finger to the bone. They removed the finger at the knuckle closest to the hand. That was 40+ years ago. It never grew back...

My original gold one wore smooth and had to be cut off due to my arthritic joints.
Now I have stainless steel --larger ring. 40 years and counting . My Dads could not be taken off and he is buried with it on. Like Father like son I guess. Other women never could even get close to matching what I've been blessed with.

that's actually fixable. It just takes a ring mandrel or anything that's round and hard and a little smaller than the ring (a dowel would work if it's close-ish to the size of the ring).

When I was newly married my wife's family had a cottage on Cayuga lake in Ithaca NY . They had a boat dock made of steel pipes . Went to jump off the dock one sunny weekend and my wedding ring got caught on top of one of the pipes . Cut me deep and bent the ring . Was not happy to be wearing it on that day 😁
