You say "project car". How much of a project? What years are you most interested in?
Here's a project, but probably too far from you. I have a rebuilt motor you could buy and put in it. It's not far from me, but I have too much on my plate to work on it. https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2532855

That one is actually really close to me but they’re asking too much I think. There are a few nearby that I want to check out once I have final clearance from the CFO.

The guy across the road from me has an early '50s split window. It's one of those deals (like my Porsche) that's been in his garage for years, but he never does anything with it. It's in really good shape too. I think it's stock or mostly stock.

I'm going to be reluctantly selling my '50 split to help finance a cabin I'll be building at Bear Valley. It doesn't need much work and probably will cost too much for you. I might get up to 50K or so. Your CFO will likely balk at such a purchase.

$50k? That will be a most definite no. I’m having to justify my want for a 6th car as it is.

Back in 1973 I bought my 1973 Superbug. It cost $2,700 out the door. With the inflation calculator that is the equivalent of $17,580 today.
I paid it off in 12 months, and traded it in for my 1974 914 2.0 that I custom ordered to be MY car.

I sold my '52 a few years ago for $30k; used the proceeds to buy a 356

Looks like the right car for me but it’s all the way across the country. There are quite a few here in the SF Bay Area worth considering. Thanks for the offer though Seahawk!

![]() It is so easy to get lost on Samba, btw...I started the "what if" scenarios yesterday since it was so hot out. I entered the "Three Step" program today. Then the 2002 thread. Help me.

To answer the question in the first post, buy bug, take it apart. Super simple. Fix the problems, reassemble. Not much to them. A few books and help from the internet and you will know learn all about the beetle.

I really like them. I've had three of them. A bus, a 1960's beetle, the pictured (1974?), well four of them if you count the 911SC.

I've had a few including my first car, a 63. The rest were FV race cars. Agree on Muir's book. I'm on my second copy. I've thought about getting one to play with but I'm up to my arm pits in 914 projects.
