In high school, one kid confessed that for the longest time he thought Queen's song was "Another One Buys a Datsun". He wondered: What's so great about a Datsun that Freddie Mercury's singing about buying one?

Franky Valli and the Four Seasons. My girlfriend was certain in the song Let's Hang On, he was singing '"we got a lota lucky twi nuts" instead of "we got a lota love between us". How the heck do I remember this crap?

"One Horse Soap and Sleigh."
From Jingle Bells. Never made sense to me, but lots of big band Christmassy stuff had nonsense lyrics so I never thought too much about it. |

Lady friend singing Jimmy Buffet:
"Stepped on a pop tart, blew out my flip flop" Whoaaaa! Who the hell has ever stepped on a pop tart?! College buddy listening and singing with a blues band: "My baby got a black cap on" Hey! Dude! It's "My baby got a BLACK CAT BONE!" My dear friend once upon a time on a long road trip: "We're gonna hit the Krystal drive thru for some cat heads (he's a product of the Mississippi Delta where they have cat head biscuits) and pull a Steely Dan" Huh? "yeah, you know, drink scotch whiskey all night long and dine behind the wheel"! Last edited by SCadaddle; 07-17-2022 at 06:47 PM.. |

An adjacent sidebar; on the Conan Podcast, the producer was telling Conan that his wife thought the name was McJagger, not Mick Jagger.

Yes, some lyrics are really hard to hear and understand, but a lot of the stuff that you guys are posting is not anything that I'd misunderstood. But then I know that different folks have different capacities for hearing and understanding speech. For instance, I understand folks with fairly strong accents most of the time, but I've known other folks that had a really hard time understanding people with thick accents, whether they are foreign (English, Scottish, Indian, etc...) or even people with thick accents from the New England area.
