I've always been a big fan of Lindsey Buckingham and his Turner guitars. They are $$$$$ and the last thing I need is another guitar.

But I've been interested in these Godin guitars out of Canada and have seen a few "buskers" playing them. Anybody have any experience? Here's Rick Emmett playing one along with a nylon string version. I'm interested in the nylon version.

I played around with a Godin at my local GC and it was nice well made and the action was good....

But I'm really looking at the Fender Acoustasonics I don't have anything in a Jazzmaster shape, so I'm leaning towards one of them..

And the only hollow body electric I own I'm currently rebuilding.. so I'm interested in a D'Angelico.. and I don't own a SG shape so this fits the bill

A little update on the Porsche Themed Guitar that Prestige is creating for me..

Steve, I think you will appreciate it...

The custom finger board inlay...

And the guys that produce the amazing Prestige Guitars.

Clearly I am a massive Prestige supporter, this will be the 5th guitar they created for me. The fourth I pick up next week. This one will be ready in late November.

It is an amazing experience working with a boutique builder who employes great lutheirs and craftsmen. Their Tone wood division is another story, supplying the likes of Fender, Gibson and other big players in the guitar world.

Cheers

One my of my all time favorite songs. And Rick is one of my favorite guitar heros...

Those Godins seem epic,

That is a very cool guitar.

OK Guitar Brain Trust... I'm really enjoying this 'guitar thing'... and learning with my daughter has been excellent bonding for us.

I really like her telecaster (Squire 50's Classic Vibe - https://www.long-mcquade.com/160468/Guitars/Electric-Guitars/Fender-Musical-Instruments/Classic-Vibe-50s-Telecaster--Maple-Fingerboard---Butterscotch-Blonde.htm), its way nicer than my Affinity strat HSS.

Anyway, I'm looking at 3 telecasters...

The first is a 80's MIJ Boxer Telecaster in nice shape. It has upgraded pickups and it otherwise all original. I like this because apparently it can play like a telecaster, a strat, or a LP.

The second is a fender Player Plus about a year old. Its a nice guitar and in perfect shape.

The 3rd is a Squire Affinity 70s vibe. About a year old and perfect. It is 2/3 the cost of the other 2 and about what I paid new for my daughter's guitar.

What would you do and why?

Another option is to get my strat setup and enjoy it. I could polish the frets myself and restring it too.

With those guitars, I would have to play and hear them in order to decide.

What strat do you have? A setup does wonders for any guitar

Oh sorry I see affinity Strat …not familiar

And I didn’t answer the why part…..I have a lot of guitars. High end stuff. I can only remember having tried one of them, maybe 2 out of 15 I have kept. With high end stuff, I know the guitar is “good “ and I know how they sound already. I know a lot about them before I order them. If I don’t like it, I can send it back

With the lower priced stuff, I have no idea. The last student or budget priced guitar I had was a peavy patriot when I was 13 and I’m 51 now, so,,,,,,

But my understanding is that with the more affordable instruments, the quality, fit and finish can vary from one instrument to another. I would want to try a few to see if it worked right….wonkey electronics, sharp fret ends, sticky neck etc.,,,,

There are some excellent entry level guitars available now days but I would want to sit down with a bunch and play them till I found the one I liked

What’s your budget ?

EDIT…tried to look up those guitars you mentioned…I’m not familiar with any of them enough to comment. They are not really student guitars so disregard what I said.

I like that classic 50 Tele. Seems nice. I have a 64 AVRI Tele and an American Strat. I always prefer a Tele but love both. Choosing between two if I could only have one, definitely a Tele

Seems like your budget is in the $500 to $700 range. If that’s right I would go look at one of the PRS SE series and don’t look back

And if you can swing $900 get a prs se dgt and you will be happy probably forever
https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SEDGTMTBI--prs-prs-se-dgt-david-grissom-signature-solidbody-electric-guitar-mccarty-tobacco-sunburst

Currently $19 per month for 48 months. I’ve probably bought a dozen guitars from sweet water using their promo financing. Best thing to ever happen for players, worse thing to ever happen to the corner music shop

Option 1 and 2 are $900 used.

Option 1 is the original 1980s version of thos:

OK not familiar with them

My advice to any person who is an adult with a job that allows a decent budget and who is serious about having a guitar and learning to play is simple, get the one you want and be done with it (you will never be done with it if you love guitars)

When it comes to strats and tele, im a purist. I like the basic American Tele and Strat and some of their vintage reissues

I truly believe for $900 you won’t get a better new guitar at that price better than a PRS SE..assuming you like their style. For $900 you can find a used American Strat or America Tele standard series I’m sure. Hard to beat

For $1,200 it’s hard to beat these
https://www.long-mcquade.com/110775/Guitars/Electric-Guitars/Fender-Musical-Instruments/Player-Telecaster-Maple---3-Tone-Sunburst.htm

The difference between $900 and $1,200 ain’t much

The link you posted is for a humbucker telecaster, just to be clear. Traditional Fender Teles/Strats are single coil. I have owned many guitars and presently have 15 electrics, I would buy the best single coil Strat you can find and be done with it. They are more comfortable and lighter with the contoured back. Also, the best doesn't necessarily mean the most expensive, older Made in Japan or Mexico Strats are excellent. Don't get looks and playability confused. FYI, I owned a $3000 Gibson Firebird (Johnny Winter) that sucked, the guitar has to fit you and your style.

Option 2 is the next level up of that guitar. It’s the player plus with better pickups.

Black968 - I realize this. Option 1 is an 80’s made in Japan Boxer (dual humbucker) Tele. It’s interesting that they reintroduced these because I don’t think they sold like hot cakes in the 80s - it seems to be quite rare and possibly not desirable, maybe for a reason. The reviews on the new once are quite good tho because you can make it play like a Strat, a Tele, or a LP depending on the pickup configuration you select.

Option 2 is made in Mexico so if it checks out, I’m going to buy it. I was avoiding MIM fenders.

I appreciate the input on the PRS guitars, there are a few of those local and used for $450-500.

Martin N 20 1971-1972 by the serial number. It seldom left the original case condition. Any idea of the value?

Thank you to RF and B968 for setting me straight.

This is what I bought.

https://www.fender.com/en/electric-series/player-plus/player-plus-telecaster/0147332300.html

It’s perfect and I got a great deal. The seller wanted a jazz master.
