I watched that episode of Vice Grip last night as I normally do on Fridays and I was shouting at the screen! That was my first car in high school, a 72 Mercury Marquis, but in brown with a white vinyl roof. What I can't figure out is Derek's was a 460, mine was a 429. He shows the engine sticker at one point showing the tuning specs for 429-460, but his is clearly a 460. He also goes on to say that 72' was the cut over year for the 460 Continental engine, but my 72 definitely had the 429.

The boss at my very first job bought a brand new 1974 Mercury Marquis MX Brougham. It was just huge. I would park my 74 914 right next to it and we pulled up to a wall. My rear bumper on the 914 came to his back door just past the B pillar. He sent me on a errand to pick up a shipment of supplies, and make some deliveries. The trunk was large enough to rent as a Mini house in California. I sucked up an entire tank of 20+ gallons in one day of local driving and I was getting 8 MPG. One finger steering, insane cold AC, and a ride like a living room Lazy Boy recliner.

Yesterday we had all met at my wife's Grandmother's house and my Brother-in-law drove the Lincoln. My Sister-in-law was in the front passenger seat and there were 3 teens in the back seat and as we headed back home he went blowing by me on hwy 280 and it was cool to see that big ol boat floating along. I was driving our Lexus RX350 with my wife and 2 adult children and went cruising by the Lincoln doing about 80mph and led the whole way home. At a traffic light the Lincoln pulls up beside me, we were first at the light, and when the light turned green he nailed it, so I nail it, squeal the tires a little and blow by him. Funny, that big ol boat has a 460ci V8 in it and my Lexus V6 probably has more horsepower and pretty much dusted the Lincoln. Good times. Bob, I totally forgot about getting pictures of the carburetor smog set up and will try to get some pictures in the next day or so. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk

I'm not sure of the year...late 60's I think. One of my friends parents had a Merc with a rear window that would disappear into behind the rear seats at a touch of a button.
We enjoyed that car.
