Collecting vintage jeans, especially Levi’s, has been going on for quite some time. I knew a guy back in the ‘80s who quit his day job and started hoarding used Levi’s from around the American Southwest and bringing them to Paris, he made a fortune. He’d go to swap meets and just buy them up, back then people were not as sophisticated about what they had and he would score all kinds of rare jeans that Europeans or the Japanese would pay big bucks for.

That was 40 years ago. Maybe 20-30 years ago, Levi’s decided to get in on the action and started re-issuing various old designs and selling them for hundreds of dollars. Some are cool but I wouldn’t be caught dead in them…might as well have a sign that says, “sucker,” hanging around your neck.

Along with vintage jeans...collecting and selling used athletic shoes is a big business.

A guy opened a store near me selling only slightly used sneakers and the place is busy all the time.
Just like a clothing store...he marks them up 100%....after purchasing them for a low price.

Plus..he doesn't have to provide a warranty or returns.

There are many thing in life I just "don't get" and I honestly can't fathom wearing old second hand shoes or jeans. I have never had a problem wearing out my own jeans. And no one wants my old shoes, and they go from nice and new, to the backup pair for rainy days or going to an event where I will need to walk in the grass, to yard mowing & working on the car pair, to the trash can.

Same with my jeans, I wear holes in the knees, and the pockets are patched multiple times and just worn out, and covered in oil stains from working on my cars.

I don't understand the ladies that love to wear jeans with giant rips across the legs that look like they were attacked with a weed eater. I don't understand florescent green or blue hair, facial piercings and facial tattoos and facial implants. Not my circus, not my monkey. I just ignore it, and carry on with my happy life.

I will be a customer of the 2nd hand shoe store mentioned above.
Not as a buyer..but a seller.

I have a few diff pairs that I just don't wear anymore and they are in very good shape.
I expect he will give me around $10 or so for each pair.(maybe more) Then they go on his shelf for $30-$40 a pair.

And here I thought I had "vintage" 501s when I noted that they still said "Made in the USA". From 1995 or so I think. And BTW a 1995 32x32 is not a 2022 32x32 in a similar way that mrs mjohnson is a size 8 or 10 in the fancy section of Nordstrom yet somehow a 0 or 2 at Banana Republic.

Me, I've moved on from Levis as their fits got really inconsistent and the denim quality went quickly downhill in the last 20-30y. Yes, they're a splurge, but Naked and Famous is proper Japanese fabric woven on pre-war US looms (so it's very "interesting" with old school character) and have no Chinese slave/Uyghur cotton content, then they're built by happy Canadians up there in Canadia. I'm a desk jockey but even with that use they last at least 3x as long as Levis and they have slim fits that work for normal skinny-ish guys that don't want to look like hipsters.
Those Looms were sold off either in the 60's or 70's for wider Looms..the Japanese bought them and started making Jeans...That Denim is about the best in the world..as a consequence jeans with Japanese denim are usually expensive.

(Although I've posted about things more weird)

I just bought some new LLBean lined jeans...with the cold weather, I love them.
No kevlar in them.

If you're wearing jeans with a lining just because of the cold, then try long underwear. The key to being outside in the cold is layers. When the top layer(s) get wet, you change them out. So you change the wet jeans, and keep the long underwear so you don't freeze your ass off. The long underwear stays warm while you change into cold as hell dry jeans. Wear a waterproof hat. I like mountain climbing gloves too when I'm working in the cold.

^^^ The lined jeans are much more comfortable than long underwear.
I wear them for everyday use. Long underwear is uncomfortable and sweaty.

My biker friend recently sent me a link to an article about how to style mom jeans, and I was very surprised. She’s a tough-as-nails kinda gal, never thought she was wearing anything like that.
I've tried those but they're way too baggy to take advantage of my amazing (for an old man) glutes.
