That's bad luck.

I was half deaf from a very early age and considered a troublemaker at school because I wouldn't follow instructions and do what I was told. I thought all kids heard the same as me and that I was just stupid not knowing what was going on. Then at some point I learnt to lip read, which I still do. Halfwit teachers should have figured out I was deaf.

I wish I had learned to lipread. I had problems in school also. I was 18 or 19 before I got my first hearing aid.

I can tell you the masking from covid really threw a wrench into my ability to communicate. I had no idea that I was lip reading as much as I do because of hearing loss.
I need to get assessed again and get some hearing aids. Hopefully they can do something with the tinnitus too.

My dad (81) has ones with bluetooth, but he can only pair 2 things. For him it's the tv and phone. There's no talking to him with tv on. He'll say something about this or that, a question about a line in a movie, but that's a one way conversation. He has to turn them off/switch to tune you in. Pretty much sucks to watch a game with him.

Also, his hearing aids did not come with the translation, or comprehension feature, so you might want to shop for ones that have those things built in too.

You guys had a reliable tool and it was taken away. I could see how that would suck. My single ear gets me by just fine normally and most people do not notice my hearing aid. I feel it is a minor inconvenience in the scheme of things.
