A BILLION dollars

Anybody else here throw money away? I spent $2 for a brief fantasy.

matthewb0051 10-31-2022 11:48 AM

I'm all in.

NutmegCarrera 10-31-2022 12:08 PM

Assuming you’re talking about the lottery.
In my case, it’s a sort of insurance policy.
I throw in to the office pool. Insurance that if they win - I’m not stuck here working for another ? Years, and they all get to walk away.

That’s the only way I can justify that.

Oh, and exactly that scenario happened to one of my co-workers spouse. He was away, and the group did not cover him. Would’ve been worth over $1mil.
And no - they did not grandfather him.

In the end, people are jerks.

Nope, I know how to do math and the odds are just staggering. I see no point in donating more to the billion dollar fund.

You have a higher chance of winning is 1 in 292,201,338. You have a better chance to become the next POTUS. Really!

Yep, I think I've purchased <5 lottery tickets over the years, and I don't get caught up in the frenzy when the stakes get high. I think the previous times that I've purchased have all been at the urging of a girlfriend or something. $2 seemed a small price to pay to keeping them happy.

I also don't gamble or bet.

stomachmonkey 10-31-2022 12:22 PM

I'll play when they get big like this.

Are the odds of winning ridiculous? Yes. But someone always wins eventually and I have the same crap odds as everyone else so why not me?

I only play one ticket. My odds don't really improve if I play $10.00 vs $1.00 and you can only win on one ticket anyway.

A billion dollars. That equates to a LOT of pool cues Paul.

GG Allin 10-31-2022 12:42 PM

The last one over a billion not long ago sold a couple miles from me. Safe to say, this one won't.

pwd72s 10-31-2022 12:48 PM

Ahhh, but the fantasies. Hey, maybe even a Southwest Cue. ;)

gchappel 10-31-2022 12:57 PM

I figure the chances of winning if I do not buy a ticket are 0.
If I do buy one ticket, my odds go up astronomically. A billion times higher than 0.
So I buy one.
gary

Skytrooper 10-31-2022 06:05 PM

I will buy about 3-4 tickets over the course of a year on the big buck lottery tickets. Maybe 10-12 instant per year. Ya cant win if ya dont play, but everyone has there own limits.

As Dad used to say "Boy, you can't catch a fish if your line isn't in the water........"

A BILLION dollar lottery win would come with its own special set of problems.

- EVERYBODY you've ever know would be at your front door thinking they deserve some of it.
And there's no way you could keep something like this private.

I'd like to have these new problems but I'd probably end up moving to a new city were nobody knows me.

Peter, you could come and live around here. Maybe right next door.

Rick Lee 10-31-2022 09:12 PM

In AZ you can remain anonymous if you win. I would remain anonymous to everyone and no one who knows me would ever hear about my winnings. No good could ever come of it.

And have change left.

Oh the Maoris would sell alright. All they want is easy cash.
