$1.2BN prize, if you take the lump sum then after taxes you would have around $300MM. You could stick that in Treasury bonds for pre tax income about $12MM/yr. Give $11.7MM/yr to charity and live perfectly fine on the rest. Take your time figuring out what to do with the corpus, as they say.

That's a lot of hookers and blow :D

$300MM after taxes? Doesn't seem worth the effort.

you have to pay taxes on gambling ??
here in europe that would be tax free I thought America was freeer then anybody else? |
I figure, the odds of finding the winning ticket on the ground as you walk to the mailbox is only slightly less than buying the winning ticket. Very slightly.
So, that’s my strategy. |

I was surprised by that too. Here in NZ if you win it, it's yours. However if you give away some of it the person receiving it will have to pay tax on it. But if you write on the lotto ticket something social club, where a bunch of people have "bought in" to the ticket, everyone can have a tax free share of the winnings. |
That part does suck. I mean, they take maybe 40% of ticket sales to begin with...then have the gall to add federal and local taxes on top of it. Maybe the feds don't share in the ticket sales money, but the states running the show do.

I would have to retrain and relearn all the angles and I get too frustrated. Funny thing is, since I have to start over a friend wants me to play on their team since it is handicap. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1667422987.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1667422987.jpg |
Eye surgery for me as well...didn't work out well. Now thinking of giving my case & cues to a guy at the Cue Ball...one who was always kind to Cindy & I. Hurts to admit it, but think my playing days are over. After the surgery, took some quarters & a cue to a local bar...couldn't make 3 balls in a row...then couldn't see at all through the tears. I'm gonna miss playing...a lot!
Must be an APA league you were invited to join...but being left eye dominant and right handed can also cause stance problems. There's a pro, John Morra, who developed such neck pain with that problem, an orthopedist advised him to quit pool. Instead, he spent god knows how many hours training himself to shoot left handed. Took almost 2 years before he returned to the tournament circuit...shoots very competitively now. League pool...the drinking league! Sorta back on topic...Greg nailed it...taxation is theft. Government taking "tax" money from their own numbers racket is grand larceny. |
Here are my standard picks. A while back KC911 called me a liar and said my nose as long as my pecker.
