I'll take the Ferrari.

I just want someone to check my oil, clean my windshield, and put air in my tires while I sit on my azz during the fill-up....

At 3.18/gal here .... that still ain't gonna happen ;)

Evans, Marv 10-24-2022 09:07 PM

As a fifteen year old filling tanks, checking oil, & washing windshields in the fifties, I can say there were some times I enjoyed cleaning windshields for certain ladies.

KFC911 10-25-2022 03:55 AM

I think most stations still had a choice between full and self-service when I started driving... but I was cheap and saving pennies.... I've always pumped my own.

I've never purchased gas in NJ tho' :D

I got a vocational teaching job at the local college when I was 25 and did that for 5 years. Plenty of time off for a second job so I worked at the local Amoco pumping gas. We had both self and full service plus a car wash - free with a fill up. I worked every weekend and IIRC some evenings.

Was also a waiter at a local seafood place and convenience store clerk. See some interesting things doing those jobs but also a lot of crazy stuff.....

stevej37 10-25-2022 04:02 AM

I remember in the early 60's some stations would give away cheap gifts/trinkets with a fill-up.
The one my father frequented gave away green stamps with gas. My mother always had a book that she was filling with them. When she had a few books, she turned them in for kitchen items.

A couple years ago, I got yelled at for starting to pump my own gas in Long Island, NY. I had no idea of their law.

GH85Carrera 10-25-2022 05:26 AM

I vividly remember pulling my 1960 VW bug into Sarge's Service Station just outside of Maxwell AFB. Lots of the military families filled up there.

I could pull in, and they came out, had to lift the hood to fill it up, they washed the windshield, checked the tire pressure, walked to the rear and checked the oil. The asked about my family by name, gave me a bunch of green stamps that I gave to my mom. On occasion they had a glass tumbler that had a theme and all matched if I kept returning.

And in the end the first time I had to pay THREE whole dollars to fill up I was outraged. Not 3 bucks a gallon, 3 bucks for a full tank and over 300 miles of driving.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1666704170.jpg

We needed to fill up before a trip with $39.22 gallons did a photo mission and filled up with 47.12 gallons. That will make your credit card smoke. ;)

stevej37 10-25-2022 12:35 PM

Just now the news said the national gas average is $3.76 for reg.
We are at $3.80...so I guess no complaints here.

(except for those Indians that only pay $3.19) :D

Exxon gave away a little tiger tail you could hang out of the gas fill door.

The president of Sohio (oil & gas) Production Company down in Houston parked his car in his spot in the parking garage right next to the employee entrance. Someone put an Exxon tiger tail in his gas tank filler.

VINMAN 10-25-2022 01:13 PM

Up 15 cents overnight...

:mad::mad:

KFC911 10-28-2022 04:11 AM

^^^^ Many stations here at 3.15 .... My goto dropped .03 to 3.12 overnight. I've been watching GB for months.... the "geek in me", and there is obvious manipulation/collusion (going on here) that's not typical, nor tied to the stations' cost....

'splain it to me Lucee :(

stevej37 10-28-2022 04:24 AM

Down a nickel to $3.71 for reg here.

Sooner or later 10-28-2022 06:18 AM

Up a Nicole over the last week to $2.93

p911dad 10-28-2022 09:17 AM

Oil fell to $76. on 9/27 but it's back up to $89. today.

KFC911 10-28-2022 09:24 AM

^^^^ Gas prices quit tracking the price of oil WAY back .... at least around here. It's different than it ever has been historically, and hard to follow logically.

Vinny gets his gas ouf of the same pipeline we do fwiw...

But he can't pump his own :D

I did fill-up at 3.12 this morning....

stevej37 10-28-2022 12:32 PM

Down again to $3.68
every day the price getting closer to those Hosers. :D

This Hoser :D put a regular gas tune in the C6 this week so now it will run on the cheap stuff. Should save about $20/month. Next spring I will put the premium tune in for drag racing.

I think there is a linkage. You hear oil is going up and a little while later gas goes up, but it takes longer for gas to go down after oil goes down.

I put $50 of nos in my Prelude and the gas mileage doesn't gain at all...in fact it gets worse.
What can I do?

stevej37 10-28-2022 06:01 PM

The price of nitrous oxide is way out of line.
When I installed the kit...a 5 lb. bottle refill was $20
Now it's over $50

Unreal...and no free car wash with a fill-up.
