Seems cheap after what it was a couple months ago. I am ready for a road trip.

stevej37 12-10-2022 04:33 AM

$3.09 for reg here. Doesn't look like it will go down soon from here.

3.05 friday most under 3.10

diesel still up 4.65

rfuerst911sc 12-10-2022 04:55 AM

Pretty consistent around here is $2.699 for 87 octane . But that is artificially low because the governor has suspended the gas tax for about a year now . It was just announced that the gas tax will be added again on January 11 .

I believe the tax is about 30 cents a gallon so a significant amount of increase . I commend the governor for the temporary hault, I am sure many have benefited .

VINMAN 12-10-2022 09:21 AM

Get gas down to $2.00 and Diesel down to $3.00

Maybe then, I'll have even the slightest reason to rejoice...

You won't ever rejoice with those expectations ... barring a total worldwide economic collapse (again), that ain't gonna happen. I still don't need any, but took my mom's car and filled it up earlier.... first time I've purchased under 3 in quite some time.... 2.79 here.

fintstone 12-10-2022 01:32 PM

I don't know. I am pleased that the prices have come down, but there is still room for improvement. They were too high two years ago and almost doubled...so a 25% retracement is good (but not great). I really am not impressed that they have come down some because stupid policies unnecessarily drove them so high to start with. So, of course, anything would be an improvement.

What does worry me is why they have come down, as the stupid has not stopped.

KFC911 12-11-2022 04:12 AM

Noticed my goto dropped another cent since yesterday .... 2.78, and many are in this range with one showing 2.67. I also notice that the .25-.30 delta between stations has returned, and many, many stations aren't showing prices on GB now. I believe that GB was absolutely used as a tool during the gouging and local station collusion that has occurred over the past few months.

Mebbe the elections being over has something to do with the drop also .... I dunno?

Why not gouge when you can deflect to a convenient scapegoat .... big oil's profits speak for themselves.... and it was not just them imo.

stevej37 12-11-2022 04:30 AM

I use nothing but Premium gas and the diff in price from reg to prem has jumped to a $1 now. (a few places are $.97)
Less than a year ago it was always 60 cents.

Maybe it's just a MI thing...I don't know.

Sooner or later 12-11-2022 04:48 AM

$2.40ish reg to $2.80ish premium here.

The people that live in places that cut gas tax to make the cost of gas seem less (and bailed out the administration before the election) will get that money taken from them in some other way. Few states are reducing their budgets/spending.

I cannot understand why the Sheets stations here still have 93 premium only 1 cent per gallon more than midgrade (and midgrade is 19 cents more than regular). This is saving me money (compared to other stations).

stevej37 12-11-2022 07:26 AM

^^^ That's the lowest spread between reg and prem that I have ever heard of.

The dollar diff here is just gouging at it's best...I believe.

That spread is VERY odd indeed! NC never eliminated their gas tax and it's actually going up a few cents on Jan 1st.

Yep ... and as has been posted many times in this thread when prices soared....

Because they can :(....

Still happening out west ...

fintstone 12-11-2022 07:50 AM

It has been like that here (at Sheetz stations) for at least weeks. Maybe longer before I noticed it (as it was not my regular station)...they are about a penny higher for regular so I had not noticed. I was driving back on a road trip and had to stop at a station that was not one I usually go to and noticed the differential. Then started going to the one here. I was putting Premium in my 911s and Mid grade in my Cayenne TT and Lexus, but for a penny more, they get the premium now. Both seem to run a little better (probably need plugs in the Cayenne as just hit 200K miles but too lazy to replace them).

Since most station here only post regular on their big signs, I was stopping where regular was a penny or two cheaper assuming the same savings on midgrade and premium. For years it was uniform where I live across all the stations. I started watching the difference more closely after stooping at a couple stations in the midwest along the interstate where the difference was close to a dollar between each grade...but only about a 30-cent differential in nearby stations.

The other stations here still have a 20-cent differential between regular and midgrade and 20 more between midgrade and premium (and their premium is only 91 (not 93 like Sheetz here). At Sheet today, regular is 1-5 cents a gallon more than a couple of nearby stations...but I don't buy regular. Premium is about 40 cents cheaper.

As noted here before, I send a lot of time in NC (just not where you live). I have two homes and some mountain land there. Gas costs a good deal more where I go there (travel across the state from east to west and vice versa) than here. Of course, as noted, I don't stray far from the interstate until I reach my destination.

stevej37 12-14-2022 10:14 AM

Reg gas finally dipped below $3 here.
$2.98 today for reg.
$4.04 for prem.

VINMAN 12-14-2022 12:12 PM

20 cent drop in diesel the past two days...

.

fintstone 12-14-2022 07:11 PM

I was passing through Fredericksburg VA today and all three grades of gas at the Sheetz station were the same price. Pretty strange. I looked it up in GasBuddy (below):

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1671077315.JPG

fintstone 12-14-2022 07:16 PM

It was the same (but cheaper) about 30 minutes east in Dahlgren VA (near the Navy Base) just before you cross into southern Maryland:

Methinks Sheetz might have a "reporting" problem to GB. Their station prices are updated automatically on GB every hour, and always by "owner", though individuals can also update them in between. This morning, my goto has 87 at 2.72, and mid &'premium both at 2.71 ... and I don't think that station even has mid-grade either.

VINMAN 12-15-2022 05:41 AM

Yeah, when I last used GB on my FL trip last month, I didn't find it too reliable as far as price actuality . Was a bit of difference between posted and actual.

I actually stopped at these two stations and checked them myself (as noted in my post, both were on my route). I only posted the GasBuddy screenshots so that I would not have to put up with the inevitable "BS, prove it" nonsense.

KFC911 12-15-2022 07:17 AM

Just to be clear fint, I was not questioning what you saw, but thought maybe it was the prices reflected on signs (also updated automagically). Before this morning, I had never checked GB for anything other than 87.... it's always been accurate for the Sheetz station I use .... if they too are selling premium for .01 less, then that's just as odd as many of the other prices seen this year imo. Just doesn't compute....

cockerpunk 12-15-2022 07:54 AM

below 3 here finally.

stevej37 12-15-2022 08:07 AM

Speedway near me is $2.99 for reg. and $4.04 for prem.

$1.05 diff

VINMAN 12-15-2022 09:35 AM

There's about a $1.40 difference between reg and prem around here. That's ridiculous. Used to always be maybe a 35- 50 cent difference.

Sooner or later 12-15-2022 09:49 AM

Cheapest here is $2.35 reg to $2.75 premium.

Yeah it's crazy because a lot of stations don't even show prem price on the road sign.
Don't know if prem will .35 over or $1.40 over. An easy way for them to make more money.

I've had my Prelude since 1998 and it requires prem. I always have checked the diff, and since 98 it's always been 60 cents. Why twice that this year?

stevej37 12-15-2022 10:46 AM

Ok...I have the answer. I called the State of MI Attorney General Office and spoke to one of the assistants. His answer made sense.

He said that the price diff will be much more noticeable when gas is dropping. Reg is used at a much faster rate than Prem and the gas stations tanks are getting filled daily with reg at a lower price while the high priced prem sits and doesn't get filled for a week or more.
Both types reflect the price when delivered.

I feel better now. :D

JackDidley 12-15-2022 08:11 PM

87 was $2.64 at Sams today.:D

ToySnakePMC 12-15-2022 09:28 PM

Sheetz south of Raleigh was $3.08 for all 3 grades tonite. Put $61 worth of 93 in my Tahoe.

KFC911 12-16-2022 02:41 AM

^^^^ Just totally strange? This isn't something that any of us have ever experienced in our lifetimes.... EVER. Wonder what Sheetz's strategy is .... it's just as disconected from historical patterns and trends as some of the recent prices, deltas, and abrupt changes that are contrary to the price of oil imo. I sure don't "get it" either.....

Because they can?

KFC911 12-16-2022 03:03 AM

At my goto Sheetz this morning via GB....

2.69 for 87 .... both mid and premium show 2.68.

stevej37 12-16-2022 03:28 AM

KFC911 12-16-2022 03:32 AM

How do ya see all fuel types on GB? I am only seeing the single grade I select....

Slower than Sliders here :D

edited: Nevermind :) .... I had never clicked on a station before....
