Noooo - Ebay. That sheet I posted the pic of was selling for five dollars.

You could work for just a few short four hour sessions and probably rake in 22 big ones. I'm talking US dollars, Sir.

Tervuren 07-28-2022 08:44 AM

Before I'd even had my driver's liscence for a year Katrina happened.
The national averages weren't quite as high as what some places experienced locally.

It was a bit of a shock to go from using a $20 for gas to needing to break out a second $20.
The switch to card has perhaps dulled my senses on the price of gasoline.

cockerpunk 07-28-2022 08:46 AM

I can see how you could post them for sale...but not sure anyone would buy them. Must be millions out there.

Sooner or later 07-28-2022 08:55 AM

Lol

A lot of those are before me! (1953).

I do remember a bunch of them.

Thanks!

Big oil sucked wind for a lot of quarters over the last decade.

This is just a flash in the pan. Let them have it.

$3.50 Akron low price. Closer to $4.00 in the swanky part of town. Same brand. Just a different corner.

fintstone 07-29-2022 11:14 AM

It is not too hard to make a profit when government discourages or prevents your competitors from producing more (of a commodity that is necessary to life/civilization). You simply produce the same as always and watch the prices rise (as the world scrambles to find supply).

Reducing areas to drill, making competitor's production less profitable (by killing pipelines), etc... sure reduces competition for integrated companies that have their own supply and already producing oilfields.

It is almost like owning a warehouse full of long hoods while government runs a "cash for cars" program that buys them and sends all average examples of them to the crusher. The supply goes down and the demand rises (except people will die without oil). Pretty soon, you have a pretty valuable "commodity".

Honestly, I would like to Bob but from what I read, oil price is one of the key drivers of inflation and apparently a solid cross-section of the country is being heavily negatively impacted.

My sense is Big Oil should lean a little more toward Schooner Tuna than, well, Big Oil. :)

fintstone 07-29-2022 11:20 AM

Just wait a few months when the strategic reserves are all depleted...those that have oil will trade it for gold to people that need to heat their homes. The price of gas will be unbearable (and the price of gas impacts almost everything (though production or transportation) ...including food production. expect those costs to be passed on.

Everywhere except in the alternate universe of Boston where there is no inflation.

I wouldn't be very damn happy with this crappy return. Investors have demanded return or they would pull their money, O&G has complied.

Exactly. Who would make a long-term investment in a business that the government has said they plan to essentially outlaw...unless there was a significant profit? The higher the risk, the higher the reward must be to attract investors.

so we should socialize risk and privatize profit?

Sooner or later 07-29-2022 11:53 AM

Exxon Mobil a more selective time frame.

Jan 2017 $88
Jan 2020 $69 (pre pandemic)
Jan 2021 $46

No. They have barely kept their heads above water for a decade. They were selling at a huge loss in 2020. The industry had huge losses,, bankruptcies, and layoffs in 2014/2015/2020. No surprise they are profiting now.

Shaun @ Tru6 07-29-2022 12:04 PM

And yet their C-suites retained their 7 and 8 figure salaries.

Listen, Capitalism isn't lost on me. My sense is there's a 1/8 to 1/4 ground they could have leaned toward. Maybe there's not. But even a token gesture would be appreciated by many.

Like any other C-suites?

Why not similarly complain about the cost of a ticket to Disney World or similar?

An executive's fiduciary duty is to make a profit for shareholders. Competition sets the balance. When government actively keeps out competition (for whatever reason), the existing players will always profit.

You really do love posting stupid nonsense. Why should government decide winners and losers in the market...and what sort of idiot thinks executives or stockholders would intentionally reduce profits to become more popular? Free market competition lowers prices and increases availability much better than the socialist principles you favor.

Better than coming to a battle of the wits unarmed. Why not make a reasonable argument if you disagree versus a personal attack?

Meanwhile, in the real world (outside of Boston). Why wouldn't gas prices be up with inflation? Unless you are buying gold chains or a flat screen TV, you are probably paying a lot more.

$3.74 here in west michigan

fintstone 07-29-2022 02:11 PM

Time for a road trip! Before the strategic reserves run out and need refilled. I'm planning a trip to Albuquerque (after the great thread here reminded me my green chile light was on low). I might as well enjoy the lower prices my taxpayer dollars paid for (strategic reserves).

Inflation is already helping with my diet, and I have dropped a couple pounds...so, it is a good time for a foodie trip to a place where the economy is weak. I will start with chicken enchiladas from El Patron just off Paseo Del Norte and Wyoming and then maybe The Range the next night...with a lot of breakfast burritos in between. I can make my own gas.

Bob Kontak 07-30-2022 04:20 AM

Akron $3.48 but at the Speedway near my my place on I77/Massillon Road. Most are a bit more.

First time below three fiddy in a while.

stevej37 07-30-2022 11:34 AM

^^^ Driven past that point many times on the way to Myrtle Beach.
The Football Hall of Fame on the west side of the highway.

Always heavy traffic there.

My part of west Michigan just went down to $4.09 today from $4.18 yesterday. Surprised how much cheaper gas is the further north you go here.

stevej37 07-30-2022 01:19 PM

I'm less than an hour north of Grand Rapids.
For some unknown reason...our gas is always less than GR.
That's ok.:)

Sooner or later 07-30-2022 01:32 PM

Big drop to $3.35
