This is what I found weird on a recent road trip...htf can premium be one dollar more a gallon in the heartland?? A normal spread, (and what we have here), is 10 cents between grades, 87/89/91 octane. So premium is usually 20 cents more than 87.

^^^ It started here about two years back. Before then, it was always a 60 cent spread between reg and prem. (in MI)

Now it's a buck spread everywhere here...and sometimes more. I saw $1.10 a couple months ago.

Arizona has been that way for many years now. The spread is generally ~30 cents between grades.

Also, $2.60 here today for 87. Well under $2 with my Fry's discount.

Last week I'm upset because I paid $2.95, went to Lima and gas was $2.45. This week I go to Lima and I'm upset because it's $3.17 with Delphos at $3.19. I can't win.
Maybe the spread from 87-91 is the new tax on these performance sedans and SUV's that require premium fuel. "What's that? Your Lexus and Acura need premium gas?...."

I recall on a trip to san fran about 10 years ago seeing the same. Actually 1 station had premium for less than regular. Perhaps it's a CA thing? Spread is bigger around here.

For whatever it's worth, AI also shows about a $1 spread between reg and premium.

Something happened here yesterday or today.
Monday - 87 octane E-10 $2.579 at the cheap stations, $2.679 everywhere else.
Today - 87 octane E-10 is now $2.699 at one station, $2.899 or 2.999 everywhere else.

We're a Kwik Trip town. Corporate headquarters are here, along with the main bakery and other infrastructure. There's maybe 6 stations I can think of that aren't a Kwik Trip. So they typically set the price and the others have to fall in line, or Kwik Trip will under cut them and run them out of business.

Could be Kwik Trip just wants to pad the bottom line before the end of the month.

Years ago, Kwik Trip switched their Premium to 91 octane ethanol free, and as prices went up, the spread between regular and premium spread from $0.20 to $0.30, to eventually today's $1.00 difference. Gas went up, spread got larger, gas went down, spread stays the same.

Today I can get 87 E-10, 88 E-15, and 91 E-0 at most Kwik Trips, and some also sell 87 E-0. You have to hunt for E-85, I think the only people who still use it are turbo guys tuned to run it. It isn't much less per gallon than regular. Ethanol subsidies or whatever usually make the 88 E-15 about 3 cents less than 87 E-10. Go to Iowa and the spread is much greater, sometimes 10 to 20 cents less.

I filled up my wife's car today.

Regular gasohol was $2.39 and regular corn free gas was $2.89. That is a heck of a government subsidy to corn farmers.

Premium corn free for the Macan was $3.239 per gallon.

A couple of daze ago, the Mayberry cabal stations that I pass were around 2.50ish and "my" station was 2.42 but had jumped to 2.88 yesterday when I filled up... the delta between Mayberry stations and big city prices comes and goes ... the tank farm is within miles off all of them.

Because they can ... they do....

Making .02 per gallon was the B$ they used to tell us... and gas prices were somewhat related to oil/bbl or events (like a storm, pipeline issue, etc.).

Now it i$....

On the plus side... the mega-profits the 5 biglies gouged us for has gone bye ... and and I still buy

At least we can get sober gas here pretty easy ... my 2-cycles, non-daily drivers, etc. don't drink the E-vil stuff .

Never have...
