Alfred Nobel had similar regrets.
It's interesting that Oppenheimer talked Edward Teller out of presenting a petition to Harry Truman to not drop the bomb unless Japan had fair warning and the terms of their future be laid out. 70 scientists from other labs signed it, but it was suppressed for years. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Szil%C3%A1rd_petition |

It is based on Bible teaching that lust is not good and nudity should be kept in the confines of marriage. I think that people who get upset that their car got scratched are probably pretty dramatic about nearly everything... My spiritual health is far more important than a piece of steel which will some day rust away (or be left to someone else after I am gone). |
It wasn't a question and since this isn't the place to discuss things people wrote in the bible, we won't.

Forgot the fact that RDJ was innit. Cillian is undoubtedly a fantastic actor. It's nice to see Nolan and Cillian's bond over the years, from Batman to this.

Apparently, there were some concerns that the detonation could cause an "atmospheric ignition," but those concerns were fairly well dismissed. There was more worry the bomb wouldn't go off at all.

I watched it last night with my son and his partner... Excellent although long and the dialogue was difficult to hear/follow at times.
The Trinity detonation scene was just incredible! Silence at detonation, long pause then a massive BOOM & blast that rippled on and on. They depicted the detonation from three observation positions and the BOOM diminished as they got further away. It's details like this that make a movie great for me. The sex scenes were symbolic and they were tastefully done. Did they add anything of value to the movie? Nope. |
Sex scenes ruin everything. Imagine a sex scene in Das Boot!?

Maybe Robert was an opportunist.

Throw in a random port scene with some strumpets. It would ruin the movie. |
It is on our list of movies to go see.
I am not sure my bladder can last three hours however. |
Saw it in IMAX yesterday. In all honesty, I don't think IMAX was necessary, but it was gorgeous. The bomb going off wasn't nearly as impressive as I expected, except for the sound system. The movie was mostly about Oppenheimer himself, from his earliest academic days to a great deal of time spent on his "Kangaroo Court" hearing over his security clearance. The nudity was just torsos, so a non-issue. And then some nudity was used in daydream sequences, so I think the purpose of it was for allegorical purposes.
The movie is jam packed with personal relationships that I thought were a bit overwhelming, hence the 3 hour run time. I checked and apparently the movie followed quite closely the book American Prometheus. This article covers in good detail how accurately the story was presented: https://www.vulture.com/2023/07/oppenheimer-historical-accuracy-what-really-happened.html |
The sound was horrible on a regular screen (non IMAX). Apparently, because the film was meant to be played on IMAX, the sound was designed also for IMAX theaters.
The three hours goes by quickly. I was compelled to do some research on Oppie after seeing the film. I will do much more. Both of his parents were geniuses, as was his brother. They amassed an impressive art collection and the boys inherited 6M$ in today’s dollars. Oppie had significant emotional and physical problems. Chain smoker until his death from throat cancer. Much of the dynamics of the film become much less murky knowing more about him. I highly recommend. |

My suggestion is to watch the first one again. I didn't like the first one at first but it really grew on me after a few times. Saw Oppenheimer today. IMO only pure outdoor scenes are still worth watching in a movie theater these days. Nice leather $1000 motor recliners with big trays are great, but that just makes it easier to sleep. Which I did throughout much of this movie. The place we went to tonight had the high-mid range turned to max. I wish I'd brought earplugs. The place was mostly empty except for the group of kids who kicked us out of our seats just after the movie started. Assigned seating? What is this an airplane? The movie has a great A-B list cast. Murphy and Blunt carried it. Didn't recognize Robert Downey Jr. at first. Damon didn't know who he was portraying. I highly suspect A.I was used in this film... But it is a Christopher Nolan movie. (cough Young untrained Batman easily defeats an entire clan of ninjas in their own home.) (cough A crowd of cops can bum-rush a crowd of criminals with AKs a thousand yards down the street and only a few die) Take any Nolan scene. Streeeeetch it out. Just when the viewer thought it was all done, stretch it some more. All emotion. No facts. And facts is what this movie was supposed to be. |
This is very technical but the info is well presented. In short... It was never going to happen.

This was amazing, assuming it's mostly accurate.
