Check these pics out. Harold Edgerton was a colleague of my Dads. I met him a few times when I was a little kid. |

Is it really worthy of R rating ? Got a 12+16y old that really wanna see it and I want to encourage science/history vs Marvel - the 12y old can close his eyes on demand... ???
|
The sex scenes were graphic but they were symbolic. The R rating is appropriate. Would I take my son to see it if he was 12 and would shut his eyes on demand? Yes.

Well I did not like it very much..
The acting was brilliant. The story good. The sex stuff totally not an issue (and no male nudity, WTH were those guys talking about?) To me it came down to directing. I thought it sucked. Nolan loves these stories split in time like Dunkirk. Added B&W - Ok, whatever, points for novelty... But the entire movie is a totally unrealistic and unending stream of clever dialog delivered back and forth at Mach 1 from one actor to the other, bim bam boom... Nobody talks like that in real life, you have to listen, process, and reply... This was 3hrs of tit for tat high-speed vomited at the audience. It's bleeping exhausting. It's like Nolan condensed 5h of dialog into 2:30 by speeding up the tape. Honestly it was a friggin' relief when the bomb exploded and everyone shut up for a minute. Same when I took a blessed quiet pee break. Guess come to think of it I did not "love" any of Nolan's movies so it's probably me... (Edit: not true I liked Memento and partially interstellar, but not the rest) Glad I did not take the kids, they would have died of boredom despite the cool subject matter. |
Agree with you on the acting. I bet Cillian wins the Oscar, not that that means much. Fortunately for him, the lack of nudity will not create a huge distraction for him. I've seen some interviews and he's a good guy. He will be a star, and rightly so.
For me the movie was like being there, but got too lost in the weeds on the politics of defaming Oppenheimer for associations with communists. |
We wanted to see the movie the other day, but it shows twice a day, 2:50 PM and 7 PM. The early show was too early for me to leave work and at three hours, I didn’t want to go to the 7 PM show. I like to be in bed early.

Saw it with my 20 year old Daughter (Chem Eng major) - loved it, actually a pretty sad movie. I asked her if she would take on a job working on such a project. She said the majority of the good Chem Eng grads get scooped up for Gov Work...so ya, I think she would.

Woobwoobwoobwoob! |
2hr movie, stretched to 3hrs. A bit, tedious.

I waited until last night to rent it. Still $5.99. Started off slow but I thought well I'm watching so I hope it gets better. Never did. Finally when it should have been over I turned it off. IDK how much time was left but it was going nowhere and I was going to sleep.
Nudity was mentioned above. At least get some actress with some decent boobs. One looking north while the other looking west turns me off. No nudity would have been better. I don't see many movies for this reason. If they are all that bad I don't need to see them. |
I liked it a lot. The movie was about Oppenheimer and the complexity of the human mind more than about the Bomb. Nolan used a spiderweb like construct to show how the various relationships and interactions impacted key points in the event and how the players suffered for it.
Whether or not the bit about Kyoto being removed as a target due to a honeymoon was true it served to illustrate how such important decisions can be affected. From my PoV the energy of the film with the darting about was a mirror to the entropy of the nuclear explosion. I thoroughly enjoyed this bit of cinematic art. |
All the scientist knew this was the culmination of Einstein's vision from 1915.
I liked how Harry T. was portrayed, a simple guy, who made a monumental decision still discussed today. |

I actually liked the movie.
The plot was strange at times but the actors more than made up for it. Can't say the same for that super lame Audi/Lancia rally movie. Worst ever. Actors, cinematography and story line were just horrible. Pissed I wasted $5 renting on Amazon Prime. |
I watched it on Tv last night and thought it was pretty good. Might have to watch it a second time to understand all the subtle nuances.
