One big of real history, the Philippine sea Great Turkey shoot.
The Japanese aircraft technology did not evolve at all from the Zero. It was light weight, but had no armor, and was totally outclassed by the new American fighters. It was just not a fair fight, for the air battles, and the America pilots dubbed it the Great Turkey shoot" and they were really happy to not have a fair fight and destroy the best a lot of Japanese Zeros and kill their best pilots. All real history.

Yep, once the Wildcat was replaced by the Hellcat, the air battles changed...
