Last Track day of the season..........

Last day of the track season here in Seattle is this Sunday...........fall has fell in the Pacific Northwest.

Here is my local track, about an hour from my 5 acre ranch.

My AWD Porsche 996 C4S has a flat tire, so taking the Blue Cayman instead...........being a mid engine it makes for a better track car. More fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow.....You RARELY see a Cobalt Blue Pcar!

Sounds like fun.

My last track event for this year will be at CMP at the end of October, a three day event. Friday is open track, which is awesome.

I'm going to Sonoma in November... Not that I go that often. I'd be happy to go twice each year. I'm afraid if I go more often I will end up spending a ton of money on tires and brake pads etc. Price of admission I suppose.

Cobalt Blue is my absolute favorite color on a Cayman.

I know Pacific Raceways well.
Many, many laps in various 944s, starting with PCA DE events, ending up racing with Greg Fordahl's gang of ITS class 944s with SCCA.

Have fun, drive a good race, and don't crash the car.

Last weekend of the race series I'm competing in, too! Beautiful fall colours, and two perfect days on the weather radar. Our goal is to finish all 16 hours of enduro.

Turn3 A/B is the inpiration of the name of my shop. At the time we opened they were my favorite turn complex. Predates The Ridge and Area27 being built. Still love going through that corner set though.

Cheers

If those pairs of orange dots near the entrances to T2, 5A, and 8, what are they for? Just to slow things down a little?

Those cones aren't on the live hot track. But that's be a hoot of fun if they added a slalom course to the "line"

We're just getting into our track season since it's now below 100°!

This weekend was my first time at COTA. What an awesome track! Even with my little 325hp Cayman I could keep most of the big cars away because cornering speeds are so high and mistakes so costly to lap time.

COTA is prepping for the F1 race so they put all of us in the garages and refunded the folks who paid to be there. It was great and now I'm spoiled for garages!

Those orange dots represent the locations of cones out on the track (as do the yellow and green cones, turn in and apex respectively). Most clubs do not use those cones, but Don Kitch's Proformance Racing School does (featured in The Art of Racing in the Rain). They are not there to slow anyone down. Quite the contrary - they are there to speed up the students. Going through those "gates" puts one on what we call the "school line", which is one of the fastest lines around Pacific. Coincidentally, one of the safest as well.

Oh, and Pacific is run counter-clockwise because to run it clockwise would be exceedingly dangerous. It's surrounded by trees. Going off if running clockwise in a few corners would almost certainly kill someone.

With elevation changes, it works perfect, You leave turn 1 starting down hill gently. The approach to 3A and then into 3B is pretty steep. Then you start to climb again out of turn 6, which is a good climb.

Cheers
