And being a passenger with a serial tailgater is terrifying.
Same here. I refuse to drive Ms Rocket and myself due her constant outbursts of slow down!, watch it!, move over!, etc. It make driving miserable.

Of course, she’s the one who has had several accidents…🙄

SWFL has terrible lane discipline. I think most of these left lane campers are poor drivers, hate driving, and couldn't tell you directions or left from right.

For me, it's leap frog. Right lane driving, pass on left. The lane discipline gets a little muddy in urban areas.

I partially blame bad drivers on the speed limit itself. No speed limit on Germany's Autobahn, and they have lane discipline. It costs about $3k to get a driver's license there and involves extensive training. I've driven it once. Always paying attention to my side view mirror when getting ready to pass. Thrilling experience.

The worst drivers are the ones who don't understand there's often a queue in the overtaking lane to pass a car up ahead, so they proceed to pass on the wrong side then push in the queue instead of waiting their turn.

The reason they're the worst is they're selfish cheats and I prefer a society in which cheats don't prosper. And they either a) combine the sanctimonious "you're using the lanes wrong" with themselves being the ones doing it wrong, or b) (more likely) they know they're being a dick about it but they're passive aggressively hiding behind the "you're using the lanes wrong" to not have to face up to their own being a dick about it.

That said, life's too short snd there are too many dicks in the world to take offence at them all, so if somebody wants to be one, I don't go out of my way to stop them.

This totally. If somebody comes up behind me wanting to go faster, I can't move over fast enough to let them on their way. Even if I was passing cars myself at 180mph I would be over to let them by at the first opportunity.

^^^ At 15 yrs, 9 months I got my Learner’s Permit and a month later I was driving I81 from Bristol Tn to Roanoke Va on our way to Madison, New Jersey.

Over the next 3+ years, all my Interstate Driving was I81.

Looking back, that was brutal times for a new driver and I only remember being terrified. 🤔

Drove many miles on I81 from norther Va to Knoxville as one of our daughters went to UT. (8 hrs down and 8 hrs back). Terrible amount of truck traffic and add that to the hilly conditions that slowed one truck from passing another and it made for a very tiring drive.

I’m amazed at the number of people that will slide into my safe space to the car in front of me.

This is true.. When I come up behind people fast in the GT3, it seems just about everybody gets out of the way quickly...

But its the self policing people that drive me NUTS!. Someone mentioned it earlier, and I see it ALL the time on Instagram... its the people that are going 10 over and think no one should be going faster than them so they clog up the left lane..

I dont care if I am going 100, if someone comes up behind me, I'm moving over for them.. Its SO simple!

And dont get me started on twisty mountain roads with the jackwagons who won't pull into a turnout to let the chain of 30 faster cars go by!!

It seem today, all common sense or courtesy goes out the window. Its all about me, me, me. Yield signs are basically, a way to exercise the bird even if you do not have the right of way. What happened to us? I found Socal drivers are really a bunch of dicks. I am pretty aggressive, speed a lot and weave in and out of lanes but never to slow anyone down or cut off others. If they go slow in whichever lane, I don't even think it , with a blink of any eye, I would have gone around them already. If someone signals around here, you are just wearing out your bulb. No one will even bother to slow down to let you in, heavy traffic or not. Anywhere outside, even in the super busy bar area, one flip of the signal, the driver lets me in.

What I have also noticed in the past 10 years. Slow drivers in the big three lane blvds within the cities. How the hell can a car be slower then a big city trash truck or a city bus? It never fails, the driver in whatever vehicle, (not not a box truck or anything like that) in the #1 lane with the bus on the right and somehow the fooking bus is neither ahead of the car or neck to neck until the next light. What the hell are they thinking? It isn't their car that aren't working well, they are almost newish vehicles. It never fails in flowing morning traffic. Here we go, on my way to getting the kid to their school, slow race with no one in front for a mile and this Subi or Benz SUV is neck to neck with the dump truck holding everyone back and they are oblivious. As we say in bike racing, close the damn gap. That's why we have traffic.

Yesterday we were driving home from Wichita, and I had my cruise control set. I passed several cars and pulled back into the right lane. Some dipstick in an Toyota appliance decided to take off and speed up to come along side of me on the left, and match my speed so when the inevitable slow moving truck in the right lane appeared I would have to either race him to get back over, or drop back. I started moving up, and I heard him downshift, and take off. So I just dropped back, I have zero to prove to an appliance and driving stupid is not part of my makeup. So he was in front of me for a few miles, and he finally pulled back over, and I continued on my way and he just dropped back into the distance. I am sure he is bragging to his appliance car buddies how he beat a Porsche.

The speed limit was 75, and traffic was mostly moving at 80. I have no illusions he has any inkling of how fast things can go sideways at those speeds. I know how to run fast (On a track) and the 911 can do it with ease. I keep it on the track, and not with morons around.

Sounds like your moron was gunning for you. I get similar situations where I'm running my cruise and folks that aren't gunning for me, they just aren't running cruise and aren't consistent will pass me 2, 3, or 4 times over the course of 10-30 miles. Then there's another similar driver. I almost always, probably 97-98% of the time, run my cruise on the interstate, and many folks don't like to be passed, so I'll come up behind them slowly and begin to pass, so they then speed up to pace me. For that sort, I'll usually just push the pedal down a bit and get up ahead of them by 10-20 car lengths, and that's enough to break their tractor beam. I have no desire on a mostly clear freeway to drive along side someone or worse yet, have someone cruise over my shoulder in what might be a blind spot.

Yep, it happens, although it happens no matter what I'm driving.

I'll usually get out of their way before they have a chance to crawl up my rear. If I'm the 5th car back in a line waiting to get around someone else, then that guy just has to sit and wait. I may let off of the gas a bit to increase my following distance which also works to close the gap which I suspect gives the guy in the brodozer a minor pucker, and they often back off.

Back in the 70's the LIE was the worlds largest parking lot. You could take a nap while waiting for traffic to move.

I disagree. Courtesy of the road is I got there first. Granny wants the left lane because her eyesight is so bad that her depth perception for the right hand side is terrible and she couldn't care less. People singing along with Sirius or chatting with their friends are oblivious. These people know better, they just don't give a rip.
Then there are the left lane gestapo who want to force you to drive at the speed they think is acceptable. They are a whole another breed to jerks.
