If the crack is right in the area where you look out most of the time, yea, replace the windshield.

I contacted my insurance agent and asked if my policy covered windshield repair. He said it does, and I just scanned the receipt and sent him a PDF of it. It took a month or so and they paid the cost of the repair, and it does not count as a claim on the insurance. The pro shop I used used a special drill, and drilled a small hole, just the right depth, they injected the glue, and they had a vacuum cup to pull the glue into the crack. It made it virtually vanish.

On one road trip in my 911 I got a large star on my 911 windshield while in Utah. I found a local shop to do the repair. It is still visible, but it is low on the passenger side so not a problem.

I have a Jetta as a daily driver. I got a star chip on the passenger side from a flying rock while driving. After doing some research for local chip repair shops, I chose a service that came out to my home and fixed it, sort of. A long-time veteran of windshield repair, he guaranteed the chip would not propagate, but could not guarantee the chip would disappear and it didn't. I'm a little OCD but got over the annoyance. This past fall, I'm on a road trip and caught another rock chip, this time on the driver's size. It's there and I must be getting old because I dismissed this as part of driving on road trips.

The repair guy is coming out Wednesday.

$60.00 tab. At that price I am willing to try and see if it works. If not, new windshield.

In the case I sited earlier, we got the chip on the way to Palm Springs one summer.
It wasn't all that bad, but with the heat out there by the time we got to the in-law's place it had become a crack that almost went from top to bottom.
I did get a chip repaired on my daughter's Suburban that she'd bought out in Palm Springs when they were here visiting from Japan. They ended up moving to Virginia and left the 'burb with me to ship back east. It almost disappeared but not quite.

You can just make out the shadow on the sun screen at the end of the scale in the picture.

Very happy with the $60.00 result. I can "see" it if I really try, but it is no longer annoying in the least.

Picture is worthless, I know.

We'll see. Beats a stick in the eye.

I have DIY'ed a lot of these and they can be easily and cheaply done. The Rain-X kit on Amazon works great and there are lots of YT videos on it. If it hasn't spread yet, you can do this and it costs next to nothing.

Alternative idea is to call one of those windshield repair guys on Craigslist and watch how he does it. The guy I learned from charges $90 for the first chip/crack and $20 for each additional one on the same visit. I love him, but I don't need him anymore. I can DIY it. When it spiders big or cracks to the edge, it's time for replacement and I can't DIY that.

I'm good with the results: For $60 scooters Mike came out and the star crack now looks like a gnat hit the windscreen.

If it propagates again, I'll go new.

He did say my WS was not OEM, it had been replaced years ago.

Chatty Kathy, Mike.

Consider lowering your comprehensive deductible to $100 or so. In CA, a claim against the comprehensive policy won't increase your premium. Usually a lower deductible has a very affordable increase in the premium associated with it. Maybe things are the same in Maryland.
