Good points, Tim. Unfortunately, I will be storing my trailer outside, but I plan on getting some wheel covers and parking the trailer with the tires on wood. Filled to max psi.
Most tires in the sizes I’m looking at seem to be C’s and I would like to use D’s. Also, I don’t know the last time the wheel bearings were serviced, but I will inspect and repack/replace as needed. |

I’ve heard good and bad things about bearing buddies but the bad things were from guys putting them on boat trailers and using shallow ramps which meant the wheels were fully submerged in brackish water which will challenge any bearing lube.

If a trailer tire fails on a loaded tandem axle it can overstress the remaining tire too.
Even more likely if the trailer is loaded for many miles on one tire. Uhaul doesn't care and does not provide a spare on the trailer. I don't loan out my trailers mainly to protect the tires and the wiring. ![]()

I don't think the importance of wheel bearing maintenance can be over stated.
Dad would always have my brother and I repack the wheel bearings on our Boles Aero travel trailer, tandem axle, before every vacation, even it we'd only used it for a short two week vacation the year before. He'd experienced a blown bearing on a trip he took to Alaska. Happened in the middle of nowhere. He came up with an exact replacement much to the amazement of my grandfather. This was way back in 1948.

The bearing buddies that allow you to use a zert fitting to add grease to the bearing are terrible. When you add too much grease it ends up on your brake shoes or brake magnets and results in poor to no brakes. |

Yeah by hand, we used some Craftsman grease that was kinda green and really stringy like. Man it was hard to get off your hands once you were in it.

That was my plan, to disassemble everything, clean it, and repack the bearings by hand.

In advance, get a seal puller from Amazon if you don't have one, otherwise they get destroyed. I keep a few seals in the correct size on hand.

fyi Another reason never to lend out your trailer...
If your trailer is involved in any type of accident even if you are not towing it you as the owner are still liable. If a tire fails and your trailer hits someone or if the items on the trailer fall off on the freeway you are liable even when you are not the one towing or loading it. |

I just went and looked and my tires one the smaller trailer are Goodyear Endurance as well.
The spare is a Maxxis, so I am guessing that is what came with it and I swapped them out at some point. |

On this first go round, I’ll probably clean and repack everything. I don’t know if parts are available. At least I’ve not found them on the Trailex site. I’m sure they are Dexter axles, so hopefully I can find new bearings and seals for the second go round.
