This applies to nearly every aspect of American culture.

I decided a year ago to change the way I look at food. Eat to live and not live to eat as they say. I avoid sugar, processed foods and breakfast. I eat when I'm hungry and stop when I feel satisfied. I lost 76 lb.s and feel young again. So worth it, a real life changer in every aspect. People even relate to me differently. Strangers seem to be all smiles and more engaging. I guess I was intimidating at 250lb.s? Dunno but I like it. I still catch myself preparing to tie my shoes then realize it's easy to bend over again ha ha. I wish more overweight people would make the effort, if they're like me they'd be so much happier.

My dear old departed grandma (who made 90+) always said, "go to bed hungry, wake up hungry, eat three light meals a day. Snacks....one piece of fruit, and then make sure you have a least a few hunger pains during the day".

Another downside of being overweight is it gives your knees death.

I'm lean and strong, but had to carry my 10kg dog for about an hour. OMG. it nearly killed me. And a lot of my friends weigh more than the dog and me combined, a lot more. So it must be hard work even getting up of the couch.

Exercise is a canard. It's good for all sorts of health reasons but weight loss is not one of them. Unless you're training like an Olympic athlete, you're not burning any significant calories. And it's not so much what you eat or how much you eat, it's what you're not eating that makes you healthy. If you're on the low-fat, high-carb SAD (Standard American Diet) diet, you have a +90% chance of being metabolically unhealthy regardless of your weight (look up visceral fat and TOFI for starters).

The solution is simple. Do what humans have done for a million years: eat meat, seafood, produce only. If it has to have a printed label so you know what you're even putting in your mouth??? That's actually a DO-NOT-EAT warning sticker for any thinking person People are more concerned about the fuel they put in their cars, than the fuel they put in their bodies. That's because modern man doesn't view food as fuel. Food for most is a habit and a social activity ("And, besides, I can get another drug from my doctor to mask my health symptoms anyway.") And we wonder why chronic disease has become epidemic over the past 50 years .....

It's also socially acceptable to being fat.
Ever see a bunch of middle age woman complimenting each other on how good they look even though they are 20 lbs. overweight?
As long as they aren't the fattest one in the group they are good.

If you want to take it further, obesity and its grim reaper cousin, morbid obesity, dramatically affects the health care system and the eventual cost to us all. When almost 40% of your population are obese and another 31% are overweight, totaling over 70% of every human being in the USA, we've got a big problem.

What sickens me the most is when obese parents bring up obese children and train them to be obese with their lifestyle. The kids hardly have a chance.
