I told my wife this is an Infomercial with some race cars in the background.
Driver skill had nothing to do with the race. Maybe next year they will mandate that the drivers get better grid position if they wear a funny hat or can sing and dance a number from the musical Annie?

So Prema has announced they are joining Indycar in 2025 . Anyone know how close Indycar is to being maxed out for pit stalls ? I know it varies but just wondering how many more teams can be added ?

Or do we see the possibility of keep expanding and end up with bumping via qualifying ? So some teams go home if too slow . Also I think a huge risk is lack of engine suppliers . Maybe 2-3 more should be enticed to join the party . Thoughts ?

I'd love to see fields of fifty cars trying to qualify for the Indy 500 again.

And as far as new teams entering the series? I'm all for it. Maybe someday someone involved in IndyCar will figure out a way to market it properly and there will be pre qualifying for all the races.

Indy Car seems to be headed to a charter system not unlike F1 or NASCAR. That will be your pre-qualifying aspect. There would be an exception With 33 spots available at the 500.

But the charter system for IC is said to limit each team to 3 entries. That leaves Ganassi (5 cars) in the lurch unless he forms a new team. Currently they guarantee 27 pit spaces at all races except the 500.

IC is making changes. Maybe too many with the hybrid car due to race this year after the 500.
I didn't know there was anything wrong so I say if it isn't broke....

Indy will always be 33 spots with Bump Day being a show on it's own if their are enough entries. As for number of pit stalls, NASCAR runs a lot of the same tracks with larger cars and about 40 in a field.

That should be the hope for the 500, but current rumblings may guarantee all starting spots.

^So true! He is my favorite driver on the Indycar grid, yet I did not think he would win.

I did not anticipate the Herta factor, however.

Long Beach is regarded as the highest honor to win other than the Indy 500 but I don't enjoy tracks where passing is so limited.

Also, I think it is sickening to see IndyCar become a fuel economy contest instead of a speed contest. Dixon won fair and square based on the current rules but it is sad that the slower car wins. I want to see competition of driver skills and not mathematicians calculating fuel economy.

What top level series doesn't have some sort of saving baked into the race?

Whether fuel or tires, something gets managed during the course of a race.

From my perspective Dixon won with excellent strategy in that on the last lap his crew chief basically said stand on it. No one had gotten around him beforehand although it was possible Newgarden was going to be able to. But we'll never know as it might have been a close stand off of push-to-pass against each other and maybe Dixon would have run out of fuel. I doubt the Ganassi team is going to divulge how much fuel was in the tank.

I watched Dixon's line on the last few laps when the camera allowed. He was absolutely flawless. I wish I could have seen his hands.

There's a time for outright, balls out speed (Paul Tracy, Mario) and there's also opportunities for "finishing first" (Rick Mears) after the eager-beavers shot their wads too early.

Either way, the history books have them listed as winners.

And the thing is, when Dixon was asked to lay down a burner, that's what he did. Herta was chomping at the bit after punting Newgarden.

You think those 2 drivers were misinformed or were blatant? The article doesn't say. Seems like computer analysis of race data uncovered this after how many weeks? Stupid.

With a challenge, yes, dig in. Real time data shows when and where, so this many weeks after the fact is, well, weak.

Tim Cindric said the normal push to pass software was overwritten for hybrid testing . And when that hybrid testing concluded they forgot to load the " race " push to pass software . For an organization as well run as Penske I have a hard time believing that . But anything is possible .

It'll be very interesting to see how this story transpires. I've got thoughts, but I'll hold my water until the story makes it's way through the cycle for a while....
