Very cool thread! My wife is from Kumamoto in Kyushu. We go back every year to visit her family. It is an amazing culture. Seriously thinking about living there at some point. It is super safe and people treat each other with common courtesy & respect. Not like living in LA.
The only issue is spending a fortune to keep my classic cars on the road over there. The yearly inspection for 10+ year old cars over there is daunting and expensive! But it's a cheap price to pay for the quality of life. Hope you enjoy your time over there. Subscribed!

How nice to see something other than the rau welt (sp?) caricatures normally shown when p-car and Japan are in the same thread! UK & Germany are the most sensible visits for next trip out of the country but Japan keeps popping up as a possibly better option. Like someone else here said, I never read anything bad about visiting Japan.

While talking to an owner of an immaculate Gen 1 Mazda RX6, he recommended I try a small cafe run by a lady into her classic cars, only 45mins south, perfect I was hungry so time for lunch

Three of my daughter's four kids were born in Japan as her husband works for DOD under contract to the Navy. They've since moved back stateside to Virginia.
The cost to keep and own a car over there is not cheap. She said they had to prove they had a parking space for one at the house they rented before they were allowed to even buy one. They always had small used vans to haul their growing family in. She now has a Suburban. Cool thread Capt. Keep 'em coming. Long time Honda fan here.

I saw just as many varyingly different cars on my 2nd visit in the afternoon as my 1st visit earlier in the morning
This picture is the best I have for showing the layout of the parking area, cars closest to me are just drivers taking a break from their journey, interesting cars in the middle and at the far end are where the rigs/trucks park up ![]() The freeway is about 50m/160ft above the car park, almost encircling for 360 degree's, the off ramp is out of sight and a down hill run into the parking area What makes this place so special is the noise, best description I can think of is like having a F1 race up out of sight in the sky above you You can hear what's coming in hot but you can't see it, just the noise of screaming engines, so you have no idea if its a tuned classic car/motorbike or a modern bike or a super car, until it slowly rolls into the car park As everyone in Japan is so polite, no one was, smoking their tires or revving their engine or generally being a d1ck so it was all very relaxed. No Mustangs were hurt crashing into people or the scenery I'll post up some random pictures from this visit, just need to choose the best from so many I took, until then, this was my favourite car of the day, something local, tastfully modified, great colour, just perfect! ![]()

Next trip was early last December, found a Cars and Coffee meet, only made it in time for the last 15 minutes, each meet has a theme, this one was Christmas
It's held at the Tsutaya T-site in Daikanyama, held every 2nd Sunday of the month ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

He probably already gave all the details he can, but the dots are pretty easy to connect, given his history with McLaren
