What a night - storms and tornadoes

Wow last night here in north Georgia we got blasted by storms . Tremendous amounts of rain and lightning. Strong winds with tornadoes in some areas . Our power went out at 11:30 and is still out now 6:00 . Our whole house generator clicking along nicely .

Watching the news round 2 will be coming through later this morning . Per the news aprox 50,000 folks without power across 5 counties . Stay safe out there guys .

Power still out it is raining so hard there is a river flowing down our driveway . Not sure how much the power company can do in severe rain/lightning/wind to restore power . Hopefully today .

Good luck. Just went through a week of near daily tornado and flood warnings.

Yea, those storms are what hit Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri recently. My wife and I packed our storm shelter bags, I set the shelter up with electricity down there and the portable battery TV and remote antenna. The storms all missed us, so we went back to normal, and we never had to go to the shelter. We have had it nearly 20 years and only gone down there once due to storms, and then annually to clean out the leaves and dead bugs and dirt.

Oklahoma has has at least 61 tornadoes so far this year, and the record is 149 for any one year.

Well yeah 😁 . Stopped raining and the sun is peaking out . I haven't seen rain like that since going through hurricanes in Orlando . Hope everyone is doing OK.

Last week there was a tornado warned storm just north of my sister's home. I called her to see if she knew about the possible threat. She said....

"I'll go outside and look for it."

50 tornadoes here in OH this year. We have had the warning sirens go off twice at our house, nearest hit 5 miles away.

Power was out yesterday for about 9 hours . At 6:30 this morning it went out again , it's quite windy so I am guessing a tree came down somewhere . Installing the whole house generator last year is looking like a very smart decision . Our propane company is coming out next Thursday to set and pipe in a second tank I purchased . It is a 250 gallon tank so will provide 200 gallons of emergency fuel . That's in addition to the 500 gallon tank we have now .

I can't even imagine the power of a tornado.

True story: the house we live in was blown away by a tornado in 1995 . The wife was home with their two young children when she heard the " freight train " noise . She grabbed the two kids and ran downstairs to the basement . She had the kids wrap their arms and legs around the vertical sewer pipe . The mother then wrapped her arms and legs around the children . Forty five seconds later the entire house was gone !!!

The mom opened her eyes and looked up and saw only sky . The entire house was gone , all that was left was the foundation . Thankfully mom and kids were physically fine . To this day in the woods on our property there are remnants of that day . A damaged one piece fiberglass shower unit . Various pieces of vinyl siding . Pieces of 2x lumber stuck in trees . It is a reminder of the power of mother nature and she is to be respected .

The house was rebuilt onto the existing basement footprint in 1996 . Fun fact our realtor didn't tell us about the incident until after closing , he was afraid we would back out on the deal . The way my wife and I look at it is the once in a lifetime event has happened and we are good to go

The May 3rd, 1999 F5 tornado that struck Moore, OK had 300 MPH plus winds. The highest wind speed ever recorded. Lots of houses were stripped to the concrete foundation, and in some areas the soil was stripped leaving trenches.

Our aerial photography company flew the dame the next day. We sold a lot of those photos to people looking for a record of what happened to their neighborhood. One guy came in and wanted to look for his Bobcat front end loader. It was not where he had left it. It was blown into a ditch.

Fortunately the power came back on at 8:30 so only down 2 hours . I can't imagine the wind power to move a Bobcat loader . Wow !

We have had some bad storms on and off the last 2 weeks. Tornadoes hit about 25 miles from here. Ive been lucky, never lost power. All the rain has made my grass grow like crazy.

^^^ Same here and I don't ever remember so many timely rains in the spring. Normally we get it all in one or two huge rainfalls....this spring has been perfect, so far.
