Sold for USD $46,700 04/03/2026

There are always commenters telling us that it isn’t really a steal, and that it needs $100k worth of work. But the buyer wants to work on it himself, which is 100% doable with these cars, and will cost a fraction of that amount. I’m not trying to imply that they are inexpensive to restore, but there are many ways to skin these cats, many levels of restoration one can choose from. If you’re the guy who drops their car off at one of the premier restoration facilities with a stack of blank checks, you’ll get to that six-figure mark with most Porsche restorations. But if you like to turn wrenches and mig-weld yourself, and you’re spreading the cost out over years of enjoyable restoration, this becomes a very good deal indeed. — Matt

Funny thing Baz, I was just on the phone with my buddy who has the '67S that he's getting back on the road so he can sell it. Was asking if putting a $20k paint job on it would increase the value enough to make it worth while.
I told him his car is a perfect blank canvas 'as is' since it's not a concours level type starting place to begin with. It's a former race car and has had body work done to it that is nice but not super nice.
I advised him to leave it as is and let the next owner decide what color to paint it if in fact he even decides to paint it. I think it's the perfect hot rod right now since you wouldn't have to do anything to it except drive it to have fun with it.

That's good advice and spot on, Scott.

Getting a vehicle ready to sell involves certain things - but doesn't always mean sinking a ton of $ into it.

A LOT of it involves writing a good presentation & representation. And of course the photos & video to go along with it.

If done right it makes the entire process so much smoother and credible for both seller and prospective buyers.

A 67S - wow - sorry to see it go - but comes a time, I guess.....

Missed it by that much... https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1996-porsche-911-carrera-coupe-91/

I continue to regret all the chances I had to buy one several years ago.

@ SD and Baz, depends on the buyer. BaT is so big that either scenario will play out. IDK if 20K for paint is wise meaning that he will get 20K more, but buyers realize that if the paint is really good and they like the color, then they won't have to face that cost just after buying the car.

Blank canvass works too. There is a buyer for everything it seems. I know one thing, removing even the smallest dents on the Boxster went a LONG way to getting a nice price for the car. I mean cosmetically the car was near perfect and I got a price that would have been fair for a car completely up to date service wise, which it wasn't and noted in the listing. Low mileage was the other significant factor.

I don't suppose that applies to an ex race car the is a 1967. Scary.

Good news! This comment was just posted:

If you were bidding on this one and came up short, I’ve got a nearly identical 1996 911 (black/black, 6-speed) going live on BaT in a few days.
