I have a question about bidding on B.a.T.

How does their system differ than that of eBay, where bids can be placed much higher than the current amount, but your bid only increases a set amount over the current bid.

Looks like on B.a.T. the increase required over an existing highest bid is $100. So if I place a $500 bid....does my bid automatically show up $500 more....or only that $100 more, until someone bumps it higher with their bid?

While I've never bid on bat, I think you're allowed to bid as high as you want and that is what it shows up as, your highest not the minimum bid over what it was before you bid.
I've seen bids on cars go from $xxxx to $xx,xxx in one bid.

Now on the Goodwill auction site, your bid only goes whatever the minimum bid amount is over the present bidders highest bid if it exceeds that bid. I have bid on that site and have lost a few and won a few as well.

As for ebay, my wife is usually the one doing the bidding there and uses the BIN on LGB train cars for the most part.

Thanks, Scott. I think you're right. So B.a.T. auctions more closely mimic what you'd have in a real live in person auction, except there's no one barking out "Can I get XXXX?"

Whatever a participant barks out is what the new bid is. OTOH eBay uses "proxy" bidding. You place the highest amount you want to pay and it will only increase the bid X amount at a time, dictated by others who place their bids.

^those are a real hot item right now, not really sure why. I can think of lots of ways to spend $800K and that’s not on the list.

Speculation is my guess.

I was lucky enough to get my most recent wagon on eBay and it was located less than an hour drive away. The seller was also a dealer so I was able to get my temporary tag and new registration in hand the day I picked her up.

I wanted a stick shift mostly and one that still represented the original brick shape but this one checked so many other boxes, I feel truly blessed to have "bagged" - especially for $6k!

They are out there. You just have to keep looking - and it may take years - to find that right one.

I talked to a guy up in Ormond Beach a week ago who was selling his - same as mine except an automatic, older, different color, and more miles. It was in VERY good condition and he was only asking $2k. He's a professional mechanic and works at the BMW dealership in Daytona. Turns out he had chnaged his mind and decided to keep it and forgot about his CL ad. I wasn't inquiring about it for me - but for a friend.
