Stuff on B.a.T.
Instead of individual threads I'm making one to cover various auctions I run across and think might be of interest to the forum.
How about this '66 Lotus Elan Type 45? My Lord.......just bliss........ <iframe width="718" height="404" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/r5Ifvht9hT4" title="1966 Lotus Elan Type 45 test drive!" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe> Auction ends in 1 hour, 20 minutes: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1966-lotus-elan-type-45-convertible/ |
I love BaT, even after the Hearst acquisition. Still tons of great, rare, and sometimes bizarre vehicles interspersed with the usual super-exotic "dead-guy" cars.
Part of my morning routine is to scroll through the first few pages of auctions just to catch the oddball stuff. Yeah--it's not the BaT of old, but then again , nothing is. |

I have a notification of Honda motorcycles & Volvos - that's it. It really has evolved like you said...... |

This thread should be great. |
I love the idea of owning a '60s classic. Problem is, most are rust riddled nightmares parading as a boomer's sweet dream. As an example, I present this '67 GP on BaT. It's beautiful outside, but the door bottoms and inner quarters reveal there's a cornucopia of rust that'll rear it's head at any moment.

BAT is like the Sears Christmas catalog. All those great toys that will never own.
|
The Elan is a neat little car. Original Miata beside one is like putting an original Mini next to a new bmw Mini.
The 67 Elan we had you could reach over to the passenger seat and open that door from the outside while you were sitting in driver seat. Probably safer driving a motorcycle today! |
^^^ That's very cool! :)
|
I know nothing about Studebakers (or 40/50s American iron in general) but I spotted this a week ago and thought it was unbelievably cool. A 1947 Commander Regal Deluxe. The name alone is worth the price :D Seems like a lot of car for $13,250.

Reminds me of "Hudson Hawk"! :D

the land of fake Z 28's. : )

Check out the 'driving' video on this listing for a 944 turbo cab. Not sold at $18K...no surprise there.
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1991-porsche-944-turbo-cabriolet-s2/ Some choice comments from the peanut gallery ↓ “OMG…….that was the best driving video EVER!!!” “Listing is a Master Class in how not to sell your car.” “Now I know why my auction didn’t do as well as I’d hoped...I need to think outside the box.” |

Interesting to have the narrated videos.....I like it!
Then this comment and video from the photographer. Love the passion........ Hey everyone! My name is Andre and I am the photographer that took the photos of this beautiful bmw. The vehicle is stunning in person. If you are considering purchasing this vehicle you won’t be disappointed. Here’s a little video I posted about it. Just a 1970 BMW 1600 https://youtu.be/t7i3nWnnHTs <iframe width="718" height="404" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/t7i3nWnnHTs" title="Just a 1970 BMW 1600" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
These are the standard wheels that came on the 911SC. They were on my '81 when I bought it. I upgraded to wider versions.
This auction ends in 21 hours and currently sits at $600...... 16×6″ and 16×7″ Fuchs Wheels for Porsche 911 https://bringatrailer.com/listing/fuchs-165/ http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1722114447.jpg |

Agree though - the Fuch style wheel is the best! |
Wider Fuchs is the ONLY upgrade :)

I bought and sold a car on BAT. Very nice experience. I bought a 993 back in 2020 just at the first wiff of the Pandemic (just an odd chance) , and then sold a Triumph TR6. Did well both ways. In my experience if you are really a buyer or seller and have the cash it's a good site. Any time there is big money sloshing around people will come out to take shots. i personally had a good experience.
|
I never thought about selling Fuchs on B.a.T. I have a set from a 951 with the deeper offsets I want to sell at some point. I wonder if B.a.T. would be better than the PP classifieds?
Better meaning less hassles and more $.... |
Guys who post early, low bids for no other reason except to feel self-important and ask a lot of questions on cars they'll never, ever have the intention or means to buy.
BaT is hilarious. rjp |

Told me the older crowd up there aren't too keen on Jap. cars - more inclined toward American iron, Jags, stuff like that. And Porsches. Said these guys up there seem to have money and most have shops with lifts and stuff and do work & upkeep on their own cars. I told him - sounds like the 356 guys. On the subject of B.a.T. auctions...they always show up and comment when a tub is listed with all kinds of comments....that's not the right gas cap....that headlight isn't original....stuff like that. These guys are like a cult! The amount of detailed info they collectively possess is downright scary! You know...in a good way. I say that because as a member of the registry I have benefited from tapping into that brain trust...and they never fail to provide what's needed..... |

The sheer size/notoriety/reach of BaT makes it statistically near impossible for anyone to score a good deal anymore. Great for selling if you are patient and risk averse (no guarantees at all, no protections at all). Also fun if you want to educate yourself on a specific model and can separate the knowledgeable folks from the peanut gallery... But to buy a car ? nah. There'll always be someone with more $ and less clues that wants it that day.

Plus, it already comes with rust bubbles under the paint.
So you don't have to wait 18 months like the original owners. |

Doesn't sound like the car for you. I got rust on 3 of my 4 Porsches. Plus some of my motorcycles. And my '02 Silverado. But I love them all. Thanks for your contributions to the thread! |
I meant that in the most lighthearted way possible, Baz.

I thought it was funny! And true.
