I don't know if we'll ever see cars built to this standard again. In 2000 Lexus (Toyota) was going after the Mercedes luxury market. In 2000 Mercedes was building well engineered, desirable, handsome vehicles. Toyota knew they had to one-up Mercedes if they were going to draw away their buyers and they did exactly that by building even better cars. Maybe not quite as good looking as premium German vehicles of the time but a fantastic car with Toyota quality. I have zero desire to own a new Mercedes or Lexus now but I'd love to have one of those earlier Lexus cars right now.
