I'll be curious to see one on the track if one ever shows up. I've seen a couple of new Z06's at the track including one with paper tags. It took a few sessions for the driver to get used to it and then he was flying!

I'm tiring of my 930's 500+ hp. It's fun in a straight line but as soon as the street gets windy I keep it below 5,000. I'm planning to downsize my turbo and go to twin wastegates to keep it fun.

You guys are missing the point.
They built this because they could.

And to one up so many other makers.

What I find funny is there are many modern motorcycles with a better HP to weight ratio.

This has pretty much always been the case.

Nuts. I guess it would be fun to do some of flying mile stuff, but when that is turnkey, it kind of loses its fun because everyone can.

I am generally in the "its more fun to race a slow bike fast, than a fast bike slow" camp.
Just swap bikes for cars.

aftermarket 1k / 2k?

unclebilly 07-26-2024 06:57 AM

I would like one. All of the other US manufacturers have bowed out of the Horsepower race with Dodge (or whatever name they identify as these days) making the last hellcat recently.

1064 HP in a mid engine car that handles... yes please!

Yes, and no. If you've got great roads, then a miata is a TON of fun. If you've got moderate/boring roads, then a miata is still fun, but something with more power would be more fun. On my commute, a miata would be OK, but my Boxster is better because it's got more power. I do love the feeling of acceleration, so it would be fun to have more power in my boxster, or a Flyin' Miata, Miata. I also think something like a Beck 550 or Lotus/Caterham 7 would be a ton of impractical fun.

I think Ford is still in the race. They are coming out with a crazy mustang.

Agree. I drive one of my 911's to work everyday and the only 2 curves are the on and off ramps to the highway. Pass him on the outside is my only fun. lol

Good point on the roads entering into the car selection. Living where roads are mostly straight?
Gimme a luxobarge. Roads mostly narrow & twisty? Gimme a car that is smaller with good handling.

How much power? Unless one wants to brag, enough to reach freeway blend speed while still on the onramp is plenty.

But that's just thinking about street and highway driving.

Those who buy cars that perform like this 'Vette don't do so for practical reasons.

Yep. I get 2 on ramps and an off ramp on my commute. Otherwise the rest of the drive is pretty straight and boring.

Yep, several testers got my car to go 0-60 is ~5s flat. It's supposed to have a top speed of 170. It's supposed to have 303hp. Thats far faster than it needs to be. I don't generally have a problem with full throttle acceleration in any gear resulting in tire spin with 265 35 19 tires.

Aftermarket broke 1k decades ago

Hell, there are lots of folks modifying various lambos, and the old Ford GT and other stuff for well over 1khp. I think it's not that unusual for modified turbo vehicles to end up with 1500-2000hp.

gregpark 07-26-2024 05:13 PM

I think it was back in the mid '80s BMW came out with the M5 rated at 500 HP. Pretty much unheard of then. Apparently they were so worried about someone killing themselves you had to go through their driving School in order to purchase one. Ha! look at what's available now!

I regret selling my RC8R. What a beautiful bike.
