Sweet! Glad to hear it!

Many thanks.

Now the weather is somewhat cooling in Texas, it’s becoming Targa time again!
Hah, nice. I didn't notice that you were in Texas. I drove my old '88 year round in Houston. As long as the AC is working perfectly, it'll keep you cool. There are also upgrades that can be done to get it to REALLY crank the cold.

I wish I still had my old '88 targa, but getting rid of it was the right move for me at the time. Now I'm driving an '08 Boxster S. My commute (~11 days/mo) is ~84 miles each way on I10 into and out of downtown Houston. The boxster handles it well, although I'm pretty sure I'd be happy to do the same commute in my old '88 if I still had it.

Old guys like old cars and old siht. You will get a bias opinion here. Sure they are driver's cars but you must ask yourself what you want out of a drive and I am talking about general driving not just that one day or specific drive to a cars and coffee or take your wife to an ice-cream on that perfect Sunday. I personally like them all, old new, stick or auto. I have driven my 930 or my long hood less and less due to lack of a cold AC, but it doesn't mean I dislike, or like them any less or more then my modern cars. I enjoy driving my 991Turbo S jsut as much as I like shaking the stick on my 930 or my long hood. I have to think about it each time I drive the air cool cars but the S, its automatic unless I have to go to a shady part of town. The Cayman S is the one I drive all the time no matter if it rains or on a 100 degree sunny summer day. AC is always on from march until November. I like the newer cars but you aint gonna to pry my air cool cars out of my dirty hands.

Absolutely! I'd happily drive all sorts of cars, PDK, turbo, N/A, old, new. As long as they are fun, I'm all for it.

Good questions posed here.

First of all, I love this car. Super reliable, a blast to drive some of the back roads (yes, where I live, on the edge of town, I'm able to find some good roads - at least as good as there are around DFW.). The color (Linen Grey Metallic) is very unusual and original.

I maybe suffering from a bit of the 'grass is greener' syndrome. Despite begin well maintained, at the miles I'm at, likely looking at top-end rebuild, etc. Wondering if I were to swap it out for a newer (albeit less visceral) car, I may enjoy many more years of driving, with little or no expense (wishful thinking?). I only put approx. 3-4K miles per year so definitely just a fun car. I would enjoy a good AC so wifey and I can take it on trips during the heat of the summer.

I prefer Targa - I know, I know all the 'pitfalls' and opinions. But, this is what I want. I kinda dig the rarity of the 997.2 Targa's. Plus, finding a manual tranny is difficult (and priced accordingly).

Really value each of your input. This is why this board is so much fun.

How often does she ride in it? My wife doesn't like the air cool cars too much but will ride in it or drive it but she does like the water coolers. IF you don't care for the fact that its isn't a 911, and open top is what you want, drive the Cayman S. They might just surprise ya. Want more visceral feel, change shocks and it will beat you to death and feel every bump on the road. Steering is just as responsive if not more. Drive em' they are too much fun and isn't disconnected at all but they do not feel like an air cool at all, that's for sure.

Yep, that's the only reasonable, rational answer.
