Wife freaked and said its a big one. Now I have to go hunting. Finally got rid of the ants now this. I might have left the back door open because my house it pretty tight with no holes anywhere. Trap? I need a big one and I hear the large ones are seasoned, smart and often wouldn't take the bait. It ate my kid's last mango. Now we are pissed and want some pay back. Maybe use mango as bait?

How big do you guys think this rat is. the siht is about 3/4" long and its all over the house, downstairs bath, and through out up stairs. It has a field day (night) here last night. All this happened last night.

I used a snap trap & piece of slim jim pushed onto the prong all the way. Deadly and effective!

Maybe put a trail cam there too for intel.

My parents get them at their house in phx. One of the dogs is a hunter and will kill them, but not eat them. A gentleman hunter if you may.

They put poison packets on the perimeter. If one makes it inside, they’ll put down the sticky paper. They are noisy on the paper and requires one to dispatch them. It’s a few years in between infestation and they’re fancy rats…. It must be a very common thing as i have a couple in my lab as i write this. I hope they die in someone else’s lab so they have to deal with the stench…

When we lived in Thousand Oaks we had a couple of rats find their way into our attic. Tried a couple of the super-sized rat traps, no go. Bstards took the bait (peanut butter) and triggered the trap but somehow managed to not get caught. Exterminator came in and got them, huge MFers. Norwegian rats, he called them. He also found and blocked the hole (about the size of a 50-cent piece) they used to get in.

I had a mouse problem last year. Turns out it was a mice problem. They leave a pheromone trail, so where you find one, you'll find at least six. I set traps out that night and caught three. The exterminator came out the next day and couldnt find where they were getting in, but I did. Plugged the hole and the problem was resolved.

I hate mice, rats, squirrels, mosquitoes, and hurricanes. Yeah, I guess I pretty much hate nature, lol

Off to Home Depot to get the biggest spring trap I can find. Is that what they are celled but I hear Flat 6 said, they are smart and know how to take the bate. Looks like I have to invest in a jar of peanut butter. We don't eat PB.

Nope. Instead use a Slim Jim. Cut into shorter pieces (~1") and push hard onto the bait prong.

They are called snap traps.

I've had good luck in my garage with those sticky strips for rats & mice. I've tried traps, poison bait, etc., and these worked the best. I lay it down by a wall, they get stuck to the card board strip, I whack em to kill them, pull them off the sticky strip, & put them out for the birds/animals. They're gone in the wink of an eye.

I had rats in a rental property and had to hire a pro.

1. Seal the perimeter. Sounds like you did this.
2. Set snap traps in the crawlspace - which is where our rats were. Yours is inside? Then inside I guess.
3. Absolutely ELIMINATE food sources. Which will drive them to the snap trap.

This worked perfectly for us. Even with a neighbor dumpster that attracted them. I liked this plan because it made sense. Not easy. But effective. Good luck!

Yep, regular old rat traps will do the trick. Cheese might work, but I haven't had good luck with it. meat, like a slim jim will probably do the trick. The key is to put the trap some place that you know they go regularly. So if you've seen poop in the same place several times put the trap where you find the poop, or if you have multiple spots where you find poop, so you're pretty sure they run along a wall between those two spots, then put the trap right in their path.

Something like this. I'm sure there are 50 slightly different kinds that all work about the same and any of them will do the trick.

I just bought one from Home depot ended up getting into it with a piss off old man who decided to drive his beat to siht pickup with his wheel sitting on the parking line and decided to bang into my door. His fat wife decided to lean on the door while it was right up against my kid's 4 runner. I politely ask him to be careful and that was not cool. He started with his spanish calling me all sort of racial slurs but he did know how to use the F word. Some people, I tell ya. His wife, even dumber called me entitled.

Slim Jim it is. Maybe I will even get to eat some of it. Two birds with one stone.

All this rat poo is from last night, so its new. Its all over the kitchen, living room, and the den. I hope to get this damn thing tonight.

I thought about that. We live up in a wild canyon here in the middle of LA. There use to be a few cats that roam the back hills and we never, ever has any rat problems. We have about 4-5 sq miles of wild areas with homes built on the hill side and since the Coyote settled in the area, No more wild cats.

Tie a little piece of Slim Jim or a dog treat on the bait station of your snap trap with a piece of fishing line or dental floss. I have seen them eat peanut butter off it and not trip the thing.

They are pretty smart for something with a brain the size of a jellybean

My neighbor had rats I think he used the big snap traps to get them eventually. They ate his water main hose in the crawlspace and water was squirting everywhere. I had to bury it and cover the exposed part with window screen. Then they got up under his kitchen cabinet and ate the drain trap so he had water leaking there. When i fixed it I noticed they ate through the bottom of his dish washer there was big holes in it. Old and broken anyway. He has a big dog too but fat and lazy

Smoosh blue cheese into the bait area. They'll WANT that blue cheese and if they try to get it without triggering the trap, they'll fail.
