Counted out of the season a month ago....barely make the wildcard playoffs.
Beat the Astros in two games!! Next up...Cleveland. I don't follow the other teams much...but where was Verlander?

I was at the 5th and final game of the 84 World Series. Sat just above where Gibson's HR landed. Incredible time. I still have my ticket stub and program from the game. Goose Gossage was almost unbeatable that season...Gibby was up to the challenge.

2012 was a great MLB season, perhaps only topped by 2010 and 2014.
That being said, I’m rooting for the Tigers this year. |

I enjoyed watching that Tigers game. Good baseball on all accounts.
I'm just waiting for the Dodger's to implode, again.

After the refs screwed the Tigers on a hard hit ball that bounced into the Guardians glove....they answer with three runs to win 3-0 and tie the five game series at 1-1
Game 3 is on Wed. at Detroit.

While I no longer live in the Detroit area, I still root for the Tigers. I'm originally from "down river" (Wyandotte) and I have fond memories of the old Tiger stadium and sitting in the front row of the upper deck - seats that actually were above the outfield.
I'm showing my age a bit, but I still remember seeing the 1968 World series team (my hero Al Kailine especially) which also included Mickey Lolich, Bill Freehan, and of course Denny McLain among many others. Heck, I still have my "Al Kaline" signature little league bat from bat day at the old Tiger Stadium as well as several photo pennants, including one from '68.

I was there a few times in the 68 season, it was a long trip back then...had to take Grand River Drive most of the way from GR. No x-way back then. I was there with my g'pa and father for McClains 30th win. I watched the 68 series from home after school....WS games were mostly all day games back then. Lolich was the hero....three complete winning games. (I think that record still stands) During the 84 season, I was there for many games. The best one was the 5th and final game of the World Series. The place was electric. My brother was along and he still has a clump of the outfield grass in his freezer. (thrown by someone who rushed the field after the Tigers got the final out. Gibson hit two HR's, one landed just a few rows in front of us....the one off of Goose Gossage. .

My grandfather on my mother's side was a huge Tigers fan. He and other family members traveled to the '68 series. Growing up in the 70's - 80's whenever we visited them in the summer, a Tigers game was ALWAYS on the radio in playing quietly right behind my grandpa's lazyboy chair. I went in probably the early 70's with him to a couple games in the old stadium. I remember walking in a sketchy part of town from our car to the stadium.
My grandpa had a stroke in the early 2000's. He was in a wheelchair but I took him to a night game in the new stadium. We got to park right up close and had decent enough seats in an area reserved for wheelchairs. By the time I got him home late that night to NW Ohio, he was beat after that excursion and a year later he ended up in a nursing home..... but he talked about his "first grandson" taking him to the new stadium to all his nurses during his short remaining time thereafter. The memories of my grandpa and the Tigers will forever bring a smile to my face.

^^^ Until the Tigers moved out to Comerica Park, Tiger Stadium was the only MLB stadium with no parking for spectators at all. The home owners and land owners around the stadium would rent out spaces each game. It worked well, but the prices changed wildly for diff games and times.
I think the most we ever paid for parking was $5 (World Series game) My G'pa was an avid Tiger fan also. The Denny McLain game we went to was his last trip to Detroit.

Baseball in the 60’s and 70’s was amazing
My third grade teacher was from Michigan so I learned more about Cash, Lolich, Denny etc as they wheeled in the B/w TV. Mr. Laugherty was the man. Last edited by Seahawk; 10-08-2024 at 01:36 PM.. |
