I forgot about the polio thing. If there was a line at school, I got in it. Pretty sure I got 4 or 5 vaccines. I got a shot, a sugar cube, an air gun blast and a drink from a little paper shot glass. Maybe more. I remember the kids not as lucky as me on crutches and wearing leg braces. One guy recovered pretty well but said the worst part was the morphine addiction.

My neighbor girl had polio and was in a wheel chair all through grade and middle school. She died in 9th or 10th grade.

We had all the vaccines at once at school...line up and have your sleeve pulled back. The weird thing is that there was always just two nurses...one giving the shot and one wiping the needles down with cotton and alcohol. No disposable needles in the 50's.

Who remembers buying breakfast cereal just to get the cardboard 45 rpm record on the back?
I went for The Monkees, my sister always wanted The Jackson Five.

Like these?
Here are the Archie's, Jackson Five, and one called "Sounds of the Unknown"

I held up the one so y'all can see how the part that played was a plastic film.

Yes!...except the ones we had were all square like yours in the top pic. And I thought they were 45 rpm.
I might be wrong on the speed.
The sound quality was better than expected.

^^^ I somewhat remember having an Archies record also...and the songs were short.

I might have taken the shortcut way and cut them out square instead of taking the time to cut the circle. Didn't matter for the playback.

I have this record from Kelloggs. It's an actual real 45 rpm record. I remember we sent in some box tops or something to get the record. It is from the Banana Splits Saturday morning TV show.

I do remember my mom complaining that a box of cereal had gone up to 30 cents per box! She would bring home cereal and my brother and I could empty the box at one breakfast.

Complete this.

There's a lot of songs on that K-TEL record that I almost forgot about.

I remember one of these in use at a crosswalk when I was in 1st or 2nd grade; someone from the school must've put these out in the middle of the road twice a day. That would have been mid to late '60's, small town Idaho. Later, probably the 6th or 7th grade, some of my school chums and I were tasked with cleaning out a storage thing, and there it was in a corner under a bunch of school-related detritus!

I wish now that I would have absconded with it! I doubt if anyone would have cared. It would probably fetch a pretty-penny at auction.

How about those black cannonball things filled with kerosene or whatever with a wick that they lit and put on the roads at night before there was plastic reflectorized traffic cones.
