^^^ Yep..I always wondered who lit those things.
I lived on a road with a steep hill. The road commission would keep barrels of sand full for people who couldn't make it up the hill in the winter. You needed to have your own shovel.

The 1950 pen had a pointed cap with no small hole in the tip. The change happened around 1991.

Also, at first, they had an all metal tip...remember the TV ads of a guy stabbing a soda can open? dunno when they developed the plastic tip holding the ball.

I remember the change. The hot tip for getting the ink flowing again used to be heating the tip up with a match. When they went to plastic, that didn’t work anymore.
