Oh I totally get it! Gave me some good insight on this thing, glad I'm not in more than a couple hundred on everything!

Some things are over-priced even if free. '67 Datsun Fairlady would be the classic droid I'd be looking for.

I have a soft spot for those, a girl I dated in college had one, and we would take it to the beach all the time. I swear, it seemed like if we hit a bump on the highway, it would bounce into the next lane. I might want to check it out, being local.

When I was in high school there was a girl that drove a Midget. Ginny was not a small girl. We used to say she didn't get in it, she put it on. I swear she drove by looking over the windshield.

We had a TR4A when we lived in Hawaii and my dad is almost 6'4" as am I. I could not even come close to fitting in first gen Boxster's. That is how I got into my first 911, an '86 Cab because I wanted a convertible.
Can you fit a small v8 in there? Like a cheap version of a Sunbeam? |

Dad had a hard time driving his XKE with the top up, had to duck his head to fit
Top leaked pretty bad across the top of the windshield. He bought it new, went with him to pick it up

When I see the occasional XKE in this part of the world now what strikes me is how small it it. Back in the sixties in the UK it seemed large.
Comfort in cars did not seem to be a big factor then as much. Now with more padding and heated seats, travelling is more refined and comfortable. |

I was just talking to my son yesterday about what defined a "sports car" back in the day. Bare boned mainly, light weight, agile, fun to throw into curves, fast, and somewhat small. Cars today have become bloated, and people have to have all the creature comforts like power windows and heated seats, to name a few. I told him you could look at an early model of a 911 and compare the size difference with a new model. "Sports cars" have become "do everything" cars. I miss true sports cars.

I've wanted a Sunbeam Alpine for a while now. But I've come to the conclusion you need to be extremely passionate about the car to own one. They were bad enough when the were new so will be even worse when they are old. If I bought the Alpine my life would need to revolve around fixing it and I can't be bothered with all that.

In a sudden twist to this MG saga I may have another midget coming my way... a 1969 1275 car that had metal work done, acid dipped, primed then the project stalled. Am I retarded? Perhaps.
