Captain Ahab Jr 05-07-2025 02:43 AM

Busy day of shuffling the deck chairs on HMS Enstone

Jack is gone, Calopinto in for the next 5 races

https://www.planetf1.com/news/franco-colapinto-confirmed-at-alpine-2025-emilia-romagna-gp-jack-doohan-replaced

rfuerst911sc 05-07-2025 03:53 AM

So Franco gets the seat for the next 5 races . If he doesn't do well then what ? Give Doohan another chance ? Promote another rookie ? Keep going with Franco ? Of course if Franco does well the questions go away . F1 can be quite the circus :D To add to the circus Doohan is managed by ........... Flavio ! What's next , real housewives of F1 ?????? Sainz Sr. for FIA president? That's an intriguing thought!

He's just what the FIA needs and everything the current president isn't ie a person that is respected and has integrity

100%

Of course it's mildly awkward his son is racing in the FIA's prime series but I am sure he will sidestep that properly... It would be great for anyone to replace MBS, but "el Matador", that would be awesome.

Mohammed Ben Sulayem's brother owns a business (DP World) that's one of the sponsors of McLaren F1.

Speaking of bringing respect, Alpine doing everything they can to Make F1 Slimey Again "promoting" the Flabio into Oakes' job.

Absolutely amazing the ripple effect that Carlos Ghosn has had on the team for the last 17 years (and he wasn't even part of the team!).

Shouldn't be, he'll just not be part of his sons management team if Snr becomes president

Friend at Williams told me a funny story about Carlos Jr at Williams

Carlos Jr's, entourage consists of Carlos Snr, Carlos his manager and Carlos his friend

One less Carlos should make things a little less confusing within the team :D

F1 tech is cool..

Horner has been complaining for a while about McLaren's ability to keep their tire at the right temp, warm them quick but not overheat them. They spied on their brake drums / tires to get temp measurement and suspected that McLaren used water cooling... (illegal) Hence Zack making a point of drinking "tire water" on TV in Miami to annoy Horner..

Apparently, it's a clever trick - they are using 'phase change' material in the lining of the brake cover (the drum thingie). That material is chosen to melt at a certain temperature, and when it does (I imagine it's contained in a wrapper), the melting process absorbs temperature from the brakes "for free". So the brakes don't overheat the tires.. it's 100% passive so 100% legal...apparently it's tech used in jackets (clothing I mean) already, nothing new, but new in F1 brakes ! the stuff they come up with... I imagine there would be an unsprung weight penalty but I'm no car engineer...

Encouraging news from Cadillac on the progress of the car and engine . They fired up a prototype engine last week .

An interesting BBC article on F1 history

Deschodt 05-13-2025 08:43 AM

Read in euro press the rapid departure of Ollie Oakes could have something to do with his brother being arrested and charged with "transferring criminal property" after being found in "possession of a large amount of cash" when he was stopped in Silverstone on May 1. Apparently Oakes and his brother co-own an F4 team... with somewhat shady accounting... Not looking great if he felt the need to resign immediately. That leaves that saint and super clean "Briatore" in charge ("you crasha into da walla turna 17, OK Nelson?") . Seriously, Alpine is cursed. Forget it, just sell the damn team, I am done rooting for the underdog. Focus on endurance maybe, at least that car is pretty and doing OK now (3rd at Spa this w/e).

as for Oakes, "It’s believed he remains in Dubai after resigning from his position with Alpine last week." - yikes.

I don't know how many of you have looked through the BBC article. Imaging growing up as Damon Hill. There is a picture of him in a pedal car with Bruce McLaren, Stirling Moss, Tony Brooks, his dad, Jo Bonnier and Wolfgang Von Tripps

Rtrorkt 05-13-2025 04:54 PM

BTW Ben Sulyman at it again
