Denis is 100% correct. This thread will not be moved...I still have a lot of friends in the area.

I have also lived through this type of event in California when I was growing up...not nearly has severe as what Denis is describing, but still absolutely terrifying.

It's bad here in North LA County but so far we're safe. Palisades is terrible, those roads are narrow enough with people trying to drive down while they're trying to get equipment up.

I had seen someone interviewed that many Pacific Palisades homes have had their insurance canceled in the last few weeks due to insurance companies pulling out of California. Just sad.

As someone who has suffered loss due to fire I'm praying for those affected. And if you do have to leave, documents, small heirlooms and family pictures. Everything else is replaceable. And of course, most importantly family and pets.

Stay safe out there, the winds seem to be dying off a bit.

When the fire station burns down its bad. The lack of water is going to be a huge factor.
I have never seen bulldozers push cars off a road before.
Of course the mayor is on important city business in Ghana Africa.

To be fair, I was in the Hollywood Hills checking out my friend's newly bought house yesterday at noon and no one knew about the fires yet. This event came up very suddenly. It's not like the mayor left town during some dangerous time, at least not known in advance. 24 hours ago, life was beautiful here. Right now, you cannot see the sun.

Still no mandatory evacuation order for us here yet, but the air outside is atrocious. Can't see the sky at all, but at least visibility is still good. Got some important stuff + food & water ready in case we need to leave.

Have to work on a gameplan with friends on where we're going to move our cars to as well.

Not that it’s important in the scheme of what is going on right now but the number of expensive/valuable/collector cars lost in these fires will be mind boggling. The areas burning are not the low rent districts.

That Dozer could of been cutting a fire line, fire chief was upset it had to change its focus.

This situation just illustrates the chaos occurring. Folks trying to get to their homes, others fleeing with minimal possessions. Nannies stuck with kids in the hills, parents freaking out trying to get home, not pretty.

There are many Horse properties and Horse trailers are coming from all over to help out.

Another first is night flight aircraft flying in those winds, can't even imagine.
Lots of helicopters at sunrise heading from the OC this morning.
Some areas only allow fixed wing aircraft due to the wind.

Visited the area end of May 2023. Spring rains had greened everything up. Such beautiful hillsides above Malibu with gorgeous views. I understand how this greenery becomes a real issue when weather turns seasonally dry and windy. No words for how tragic this fire has become. Sharing some low quality cell phone pics.

I've visited Cali several times over the years mostly in the areas between Irvine and Santa Barbara or the San Fran/San Jose area. It's a beautiful place with in my experience ideal weather. I'd never thought about the fact that one of the primary factors in the yearly fires is exactly that ideal weather (sunny, warm, dry/super low humidity). We've had a couple of dry, drought summers, and the fires were everywhere all of the time, but I don't think we get the winds like you get there.

Nobody there works together.
Nobody is willing to move.

Look, I don’t want to pick on you because I know that you’re not very bright but maybe refrain from commenting on things or places that you are not familiar with. I’m going to say with 100% certainty that you don’t know where this occurred without consulting a map or what people are like in that place.

Sunset Boulevard is the one and only major road at the bottom of miles and miles of hillside with homes on it. It is gridlocked on any given weekday afternoon between the Palisades and the 405. Now imagine everyone who lives north of Sunset in Brentwood and every single person in the Palisades trying to go east on Sunset at the same time…it was a parking lot with no way to park on the side of the road. I’m sure that cars were occupying every inch of the pavement. People climbed out of their cars and ran for their lives as the massive fire encroached.

Are there entitled asses living on the Westside of LA? Is a bear Catholic? Does the Pope schit in the woods? Of course there are but there are plenty of kind and generous people as well, which you would know if you lived here. There will emerge some stories of heroism and selflessness when this is over, I’m sure. Disasters bring out the best in people. Sometimes the worst as well. I would avoid sweeping generalizations about things that you clearly know nothing about.
