Cormorants are pretty awesome to watch.. they swim underwater looking for snacks...And can stay under for what seems like a really long time.. popping up far from where they tipped in...
Check out the blast radius of this one relaxing on a dock across from my place

That blast is what kills the trees. We have so many dead trees along our shores here from them. They tried to eradicate them but it didnt work

The only reason you're seeing birds like cormorants is that there is food for them.. The lakes and rivers by you are apparently healthy and support a lot of life..

I've been feeding hawks at my place for years. I walk outside and call this one or it's waiting on the power pole for me. I throw a scrap of meat up in the air for it to catch. I make a game out of making it do some athletic aerobatics to get it.

We see bald eagles at the lake pretty frequently. I was driving and one swept in out of nowhere, grabbed some roadkill, and took off just before I hit it. Happened so fast I couldn’t react, scared the hell out of me.

I would be pleased if the birds came and ate more of my squirrels. They are kind of pesky.
On a related note, I went to the Coastal Range today with a childhood friend. We saw a bald eagle as we were driving. They are pretty common here now. |

I witnessed a hawk using a stick to hit a squirrel's nest once. I was amazed at how it was using that stick like a tool.
We have a holly tree in our front yard next to the driveway. I was working outside a while back and heard a commotion and looked up to see a hawk on the top of the holly tree and two mockingbirds were having a fit. Apparently, the mockingbirds had a nest and the hawk was right at it. The hawk saw me and screeched and I said, "Hey get outta here", and it took off with the mockingbirds in hot pursuit of it. I don't know if there were babies in the nest, I didn't see any carnage or anything. Sent from my SM-S916U using Tapatalk

The Bald Eagles and Ospreys on the farm go at like MMA fighters...astounding displayed of aerial skill.
The Eagles occupy the marsh, the Ospreys the front of the farm. Taken an hour or so ago, Virginia across the Potomac: ![]() The nest is occupied.

Wish we could post videos here. A few days ago I spotted a bald eagle cruising around above my local Walgreens. Continued watching it fly very high up, lost it against the sun and then found it a few thousand feet up and saw it hit another bird a little smaller and then after hitting it, the eagle did a death spiral drop and leveled off and continued on. I don’t think it was the mating ritual eagles do as they didn’t lock talons and drop together. Looked like the eagle didn’t like this other bird, maybe an osprey, in its area so it attacked it. Got it on video. First I’ve seen that happen.
