Ten percent for pickup is ok for me but it's not an option so I leave 15%. Next time there, pay with cash.

It's a great system if you are soliciting for tips.

I wasnt so much concerned that there was an option to tip, or an expectation to do so

What surprised me is how this girl advised me that if I tipped with a CC the tip was split amongst her co-workers but if I tipped in cash it was all hers.....

If I had been her manager and overheard that, she would have been fired without my usual one warning.

Here in CA, with fast-food workers getting $20+ per hour, I rarely tip when I have to order at the counter and pick-up my own food. If they come to the table, deliver the food, etc., then I tip. But typically I do a custom amount as I am never going to give them 25% for essentially doing very little when it cost $28 to go to Carl's Jr. and get 2 Western Bacon burger meal deals. That should be about $14 maximum.

Yeah, that's pretty fubar. My guess is that 1 cash tips she can snag for herself and 2 she likes not having to pay taxes on tips.

Per the google AI. Obviously, it will vary by location.

Quote:
Shake Shack employees in Houston, TX can expect to earn an average hourly wage of around $17. However, salaries can vary widely depending on the specific role and experience level, with entry-level team members potentially earning as low as $14 per hour, while more experienced roles like Shift Managers or Managers can earn upwards of $22.48 per hour

Why is it that people these days feel that they should be given a tip? I mean, it used to be that you would tip a waiter/waitress or your barber/hairdresser, but now it seems everyone wants a tip!!!! Geeez!!!!

10% for pickup. WTF.
You people are nuts.

What next? 10% to the cashier at the grocery store?

My cheapskate rule: I don't tip if I have to order standing up.

Some of the POS machines have all the audacity. I've seen 20% as the minimum tip, with 25% and 30% as other options. After tax of course.

I used to tend bar, so made minimal (usually below minimum wage) salary and the rest was tips. Service people work for their money, and have to put up with the general public which sucks. I tip pretty well.

But I notice the same thing, there are places that are essentially fast food, where they make a living wage, and don't "serve" (like a waiter, waitress, bartender) but then the machine starts with a 20% tip and goes up from there. WTF

^^^ I have yet to see one that starts below 20% ...but they all have a 'custom tip' choice.

The tip thing is crazy now, the cost of dining it also crazy. Consider also that the cost of eating out easily doubled since Covid in the US, so tip also doubled (same job). Interesting.. It never escalated this high elsewhere.

Last night, 4 personal pizzas, 3 soft drinks, one glass of wine. W/Tip: $180 !!!!
Last summer exact same meal in europe, which is why I recall: $82 (that's $2 tip for excellent service)

My kids who are starting to grasp the concept of money now count every meal here in "european pizza" units.

Funny thing about Shake Shack ...Two weeks ago I found myself in Penn Station and I was a little hungry.. I spied a Shake Shack in the corridor, went in, bypassed the ordering kiosks... and ordered from a human standing at the counter..1 Shackburger, 1 Diet Coke

$12.48....While I was paying for the meal... The cashier leaned over and canceled the tip screen..

What is really criminal is that a 16oz Diet Coke was $4.59

I tossed $2 in the tip jar because those people work in the bowels of Penn Station...

go to a place most mornings for a muffin. I bring my coffee, just shy of $5 if it's a muffin and a bit over if its a bear claw (yum), if it is too early for money and they only take plastic then no tip, if they take cash then the change from $5 or $6 goes in the jar. All they do is transfer the pastry from their display to a plate. Not so much work

Last Friday $110. Calamari, 1 small pizza, 1 spaghetti with 1 meatball and a beer. Food is always great here but prices are getting almost like someone is playing a joke on me

I’ve tipped a couple of times at a fast food place, but felt bad afterwards. They’re getting paid by the company they work for. If it’s a sitdown restaurant, with a waiter/waitress, that brings my food, cleans the table, refills my drink, then yes, they get a tip, provided the service was good.

Nobody gives me tips!

The thing is, the worker bee at the register is not the one who programmed the register, to ask for a tip. That was the manager or owner.

Yeah, did you hear hotel maids wants 30 an hour to fold your bed sheets and wash your tub.

No tip. Piss of at the whole tip thing and run it for all the good service folks. No tip at fast food joints and do not tip 30% neither. I have been trying my hardest to tip only on the amount and not on top of tax.

Wife and I eat out often and usually bring home something for kids from restaurants. I use to tip on top of everything. Then I thought about it and ask myself why I tip for take out? Kids food is often 20-25 bucks pre person. That's 20-25% on top of 50 dollars. Its no different if I just picked it up from the counter? Not I order separately, not because I can't afford it but I am piss off at the whole tip culture around here.

Tip culture ... yep!

I grew up in the south ... you tipped at sit-down restaurants ... no where else.

I never ever received a tip for bagging groceries and taking them out to a car ... didn't expect one either.

Chick-Fil-A employees will NOT accept tips btw

Even at a drive-thru line .... I have tried ... a few times.

An "expected tip?", for nada ... bite me

EDITED: Bartenders GET tipped ... bigly
