Tic removal. A great product!
Yesterday we had a regular vet visit for our 14 year old female dachshund.
My wife had noticed a new funny looking spot in the dogs armpit. It looked like a mole when we looked at in the morning. The vet looked and said yep, that is a tic, and it had started feeding. He whipped out a cool tick remover that works great. ![]() ![]() Just slide the fingers under the head of the tic, rotate and the entire tick came right out. Easy Peasy. I have no part in this product. It is actually NOT made in China, but in France. They are cheap on Amazon. If you have pets, get one package. It comes with two sizes and the QR code will pull up a video on how to use it. Anyway, I am just passing on a great and very cheap tool for tick removal for people or pets. The vet also noticed a reaction to the tick in the dog's armpit. So he prescribed and sold us the proper antibiotic for a doxy, Doxycycline.

I grew up with a woods behind our house... I probably pulled several a week off me during tick season. I would just grab them and pull and then smash em with a hammer on the garage floor to watch the blood pop out. On occasion would find them on our dogs sometimes swollen to the size of a marble. Those would make a mess when smashed with a hammer.

I am not sure how they are getting away with proclaiming it minimizes transfer of infectious agents.
Looks like another thing to carry around that I do not need- finger nails work just fine. Yes, I have had Lyme's disease several years ago- never even saw that tick. gary |

I'm going to get a pack- thank you!
I heard many years ago if you touch them with a hot match tip, the back out on their own. No idea if that works or not.

I thought they should be twisted out, or the drill head stays in your skin. How much of a rotation is involved here?

Quote:
Using a pair of fine-tipped tweezers, grasp the tick as close to the skin as possible. Pull straight up with steady, even pressure. "Press down on the skin on either side of the tick so that the skin doesn’t pull up when you pull the tick off," Dr. Lai says. "This lessens any pinching sensation your child may feel." Thoroughly clean the bite (and your hands) with rubbing alcohol or soap and water." Lastly, take the tick, squish it like a grape while cursing at it and then squish it some more until you're sure it's dead, dead, dead.

That tic remover is easy to use. Slide the V shape along the skin, and when the tick is in the grove, start twisting, and the tic just unscrews right out. Super easy. Using tweezers with your non dominate hand can be a real challenge.

Not to mention diminished vision due to age! This is why I just hose down with insect repellent when I go in the woods. If they don't get on ya, ya don't have to remove them. Only times I've come home with a tick on me is when I don't apply insect repellent. I always spray around my ankles and waist. I bring an extra shirt that I spray down with repellent and then put on. I wear a ball cap and spray it to keep them off my noggin. I generally try to not put the bug spray directly on my skin and if I do, I shower as soon as I get home.
