Icon vs. Tekton
Now to a regular DIY guy comparing socket brands...brands a DIY would consider if he didn't already have a bunch of Craftsperson USA made tools...or needed to add to his set. Listen carefully as he talks warranty...Before I became a cripple, I bought a set of Tekton 1/2" drive 6 point standard sockets. Warranty & the rails a big part of my decision.

On your recommendation I started with a metric socket set then got an imperial set then bought metric and imperial open end wrenches. Love Tekton. Great customer service.

I broke a 13mm 6pt ⅜" drive craftsman socket the other day (I probably should have been using a short socket, but the deep well was easier to grab. My fault). Rather than have to go through a lot of trouble to get a warranty replacement for the Craftsman, I thought about buying a Craftsman off eBay, but then realized that I could get a Tekton from Amazon cheaper when you include shipping costs.
I'll be ordering the Tekton, and it's all Paul's fault because he's been professing the tekton love for a while now. He's probably got stock in the company. ![]() I'm not likely to buy anything that I want to be top quality from HF. I've seen some reviews that put their top tier stuff way up there with the big boys, and I think Icon is their top tier. But I'm pretty sure in the various reviews that I've seen, the Icon generally comes in a little lacking. They are often also quite a bit cheaper, but there are usually better options for similar prices.

Hey, good tools..great service. But maybe it's tariffs looming, maybe Biden's inflation...I would now advise some price checking on many items...but do consider their warranty service, as close to the old Sears Craftsman warranty as you can get these days.
(edit) Nope, don't own any stock. Just a guy who appreciates a company selling decent products with customer service a top priority.. Tekton Tools is a privately owned company based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It is a family-owned business led by CEO John Amash and his brother Jeff, and it operates independently, which allows it to focus on customer satisfaction and flexibility in its manufacturing processes. toolsadvisers.com

My sockets and open end wrenches have been missing since my guys work on my house about 8-9 years ago. Typical Craftsman from 20-30 years back. All the big one are gone because they needed to crank down some 3/4" or bigger bolts. I have since replaced my personally tools with Tekton. one full set of deep socket, one set of both 6 and 12 point normal ones and all three sized of the ratchet, the typical 1/4,3/8 and the big 1/2". I am so disappointed with Snap-on I bought about 6-7 years ago. One of their 14 mm socket its between size for some reason. 13mm is too small, the 14 slips on any typical nut or bolt. Found out the hard way with blood. Snap on truck wouldn't replace. My mechanic said he will take care of it but I have not brought it to him. forgetful run deep in me now days.

I used a HF socket (shhhh. Don't let me vintage Craftsman hear!) on my F250 doing passenger side ball joints just today. They worked well. I did mix and match with some old school good American extensions, breaker bar, and ratchet. But, this truck was assembled by an air-impact happy gorilla and I broke three 1/2 Craftsman pieces when I did the ball joints on the other side two years back.
I will confess, the HF stuff isn't great. But it is often good enough for me. |

My Tekton thin wall impact sockets have performed as expected . I have only used the 19mm for the Porsche wheels . They clear the lug nut wells of the wheels with no damage to the wheels . That was the reason I bought them .
