In high school I helped out a friend whose family owned a store in an office building. The family went on vacation for two weeks and had me and another high school girl working there.

They had a service for people to drop off their film. This business lady screamed and yelled at me for what seemed like forever because the photo place put someone elses pictures into her envelope & could not find her pictures yet. I could not get out of that place fast enough.

I also worked at a grocery store in college. One time a shoplifter plowed me over as they were "fleeing" the store. The night manager and a produce guy took off after him into the snow. They out ran the security guard and caught the guy a block away. He was covered in snow when they got him back in the store. All of that was over 1 pack of cigs.

The worst job I had. Hmmmmm. I would say working for Kentucky Fried Chicken when I was a kid. Fast Food work sucks. Got into building Concerts, 15 years later, Im still loving life.

The messiest job I had was working in a Chinese restaurant as the dishwasher. Before long, I was cleaning the floors. Then, I had to clean the bathrooms. I didn't know when the pain would end, so I quit.

The worst job I had was working at an engineering firm. Well, the job wasn't horrible. It's just that my heart and mind are not set up for an office job. I knew I would do something crazy if I worked in an office for the rest of my life. So, it wasn't the worst, but it could have been.

So, here I am self-employed as a real estate investor/landlord. It has its ups and downs, but overall I love my work. No two days are the same, and I know it will reap big rewards down the road.

Worst job was working contract doing product design for a major medical firm. Got stuck in a cubicle 8'x5' lit up with overpowering flourescent light. Ran Pro/E on a pokey Unix box with a crappy tube, when I pushed my chair away from my desk I immediately banged into the file cabinet thing they had jammed behind me. Supervisor was quite possibly the most arrogant and abrasive human I have ever met, never said hello back, patrolled over the cubicle wall to make sure you were working, always wore a tie (nobody else in the whole place of 700 people did), was always the last guy in the department to leave at night. Got to the point where some of the other guys would stay til 8 P.M. just to pi$$ off the boss cause' he had to be the last guy out. Nobody talked to each other there out of fear of little Hitler. People walked the halls in that place staring at their feet. Worked with guys who had been there 20 years that were lucky if they could model a brick on the computer, nobody bothered to train them on anything. Spent 1 year and 3 months designing a pager sized device that held 2 AA batteries, spent darn near 6 months on the battery door alone between donuts, surfing the internet, trying to look busy, damn near crying I was so bored, and planning my exit. Can't for the life of me figure out to this day why I was hired, I had nothing to do there. Makes me absolutely appreciate my current employer.

Loading dock at Monkey Wards was the interim college job before my internship. Lady picked up a new dishwasher one day and wanted me to tie it to the top of her Geo Metro with chicken twine, and got pi$$ed when I wouldn't do it. Wouldn't pay the $17 delivery fee either on her $500 dishwasher.

Worst Jobs consist of waxing UPS Trucks in the summer and working as a night porter on the weekends at Burger King. Oh...they let me flip burgers during the week. What a treat. I served a brief stint in the refineries down in Corpus Christi Texas, which comes in at a close 3rd.

Grunt auto detailer at a crappy third-rate body shop. On my first day the boss, his brother, and the only other guy who worked there left for lunch at 10am and didn't return until 3pm!!! When they got back I was told that I could go to lunch now...I promptly drove home, called the shop and told them I wouldn't be coming back. I don't think I even did an work that day.

Close second and third: dishwashing (lasted one shift) and opening the local Arby's (as in being there way before the store opens to prep. for the day, they sevred breakfast back then) every single weekend for 6 months. Half the time I'd have to sit in the parking lot until the manager would show up, usually still drunk from the night before.

Asphalt though....yikes

ever heard of someone who had pooper surgery where they disconnect your pooper, and hook you up to those little plastic bags with the brown "karaya" seal that seals the bag to the skin? my job, at the Hollister factory, 12 hours per night, 5 nights a week, was to make circles of glue from the 1 gallon glue bag, on the tray of 48 seals fresh from the "karaya" oven, then affix the 48 bags to the seals. the third week i was there, my supervisor brought me a box to review how i was screwing up production. what can i say, it paid the bills, got me thru school.

Wait a minute: you applied the glue BEFORE they were used.

My first job was a little unusual. I "set traps" at a local shooting range. I sat in a pit in the ground feeding clay pigeons one-by-one onto the arm of the throwing machine. The throwing arm would spin like a helicopter blade. Keeping fingers out of harms way kept me awake. I would be counting the targets thrown, so I thought I knew when we'd be done. One time I popped out and looked back into a 12ga pointed right at my face.

That was a dirty, lonely job.
