Tips. This one is new to me

Just bought a leather steering wheel cover for wife's Sienna from some company here in the US. I purchased from them because I didn't want chance some cheap Chinese pre-cut pieces that do not fit perfectly from Amazon or ebay. On my payment near the end, there's a column asking for tips for the team. The typical 15,18 and 20%. WTF have we become? Do people actually pay tips for an internet purchase now? Is this a new expected thing on the net? Since I don't buy much, still I would say it isn't a trend.

Garage
I have not seen that one yet.

I hate tipping for services that I have not yet received. There is no incentive for the service provider to do a great job deserving of a tip… they already have the money.

Here's your tip. Eat lots of fresh vegetables and don't forget to call your mother.

That’s pretty bad. I even get pissed at the takeout restaurants, I always set it to $0. Why would I tip someone who didn’t do anything for me?

I pay tips whenever stopped in the countryside at night by police in Bulgaria.

I've always tipped appropriately in restaurants. Regardless. BTDT as a former waiter.
20% used to be ahead of the curve.

But now it's demanded by every POS(Point Of Sale) service even before receiving the goods.

I remember traveling in the early 1980s and our family being swarmed by aggressive poor kids my age. "Baksheesh Now!"
And today?
By every local business?

I was in Korea last week, where tipping isn’t a thing. It was pretty nice. Also unlike the UK, you still get attentive service.

Most large cities around the world is run that way without large percentage of tipping, you know, the 'Mearican way. I attended a trade show last year at Vegas and decided to see Copperfield all by my lonesome self. Pulled in and my feet was really tired from waling all day and didn't feel like walking to and from self park. Even self park is 20 bucks or something like that so I pulled into the valet at the MGM Grand thinking it was free like it was in years past (what the hell was I thinking?)or the typical 20 bucks. It was 45 bucks. Ok, that was fine and slip the valet 5 bucks. The car was parked off to the side, 20 steps away. This dude looked at me and said, that's a little cheap. 10 is the normal tips for valets here. I was shocked a bit and tired but decided to ask for the tips back completely. These fooking people are so use to ask and you will receive. To top it off, he didn't even open the door for me. Got off and left the door open, didn't have to carry any luggage.

I noticed that when we were in Paris, this past June. That and people sitting at tables for hours. No rush to turn the tables over for more profit and tips.

Several months ago, I had my F150 battery replaced under warranty at Advanced Auto Parts. When the guy was done replacing it, I put my fist out to fist bump, and he put his palm out like I was going to give him money. 🙄

$5 is my typical valet tip unless they have to do something extra. I also typically only tip when I pick up, which I’m not sure is correct?

Around town, for dinner, its usually 3 bucks for me if I valet. 10 -15 bucks parking, 3 bucks tip isn't too bad, I am thinking? I almost never valet unless there's no parking. My days of going to places that lack parking is becoming less and less. I am not sure if we are suppose to tip when they open the door for us, and tip again later? Like you, I tip at pick up. Tipping overall, has gotten out of hand and many people I talked to hates it being so high and for no service. The one who say they tip well often lie about it to make themselves sound good. This internet purchase asking for tips really grinds my gears.

I agree, I only valet if there’s no other option. I don’t like strangers driving my cars. For an actual meal with good service I’m normally 20%, but if you scoop my guacamole at Chipotle you’re not getting a dime.
