Yes, I would buy a nice G body Carrera for $60K if the one I have currently got totaled. It is a family heirloom, so it would have to be way past bad before it would not be repaired. Has about 250,000 miles and had the top end done at about 175,000, so it will be running for a minute or two.

If/when I sell one it won't be for another year or so. I'm still having a tough time deciding. It makes sense to keep the two cars that are appreciating. In regards to what if one of the P cars is stolen or totaled - that's what insurance is for - They're both on agreed coverage. But at this point in my life I really don't want to go searching for a replacement and work through someone else's deferred maintenance on a forty year old car. It was so much easier when you could pick up an Autotrader and see dozens of air cooled 911s for sale. These days it would be a headache finding a car equal to what you had and be certain you can out bid someone on some auction site.

Dang, that looks a lot like a 993 I had. 1995, C4, rear wiper, and that weird spoiler thing on back deck lid, and script delete.

After my Range Rover needed coils, wires, and plugs a couple of months ago; I switched to my 996 cabrio as the daily. Didn't take too long before I was ready to make a change.

The 996 is gone and replaced by a 2013 Panamera GTS. I get the same gogo enjoyment like a 911 but quieter and far more comfortable.

Aubergine (that's European for purple). Additionally and maybe most important: someone had just put new Pirelli tires on all 4 corners for a $2,000 savings to me.

Here is the reality of replacing a G-body 911 and also why the fun has been sucked out of the hobby for most of us...what ever this car winds up going for. A dime-a-dozen stock '87 911 coupe with an ugly faded burgundy interior and 90k miles for probably close to 6 figures. That is a joke, unless you are a young tech bro and 100k seems fair for "an old school Porsche, bro!"

I sold those new and they are about as exciting as washing your hair in stock form. Good cars, solid construction, yada, yada but boring. They were heavy and slow 911s. 200 HP and 3k lbs. doesn't exactly make anyone scream. Back when they were under $20k in mint condition, it made sense to buy one and modify it until it was fun. Porsche parts are not cheap. Now? NFW....

For half the $$, I'd have twice the fun in the used Porsche market if I was looking right now. I can like a lot of cars and have over the years but the value/price ratio has to make sense. On these, it doesn't. Not even close.

Yeah, either that or dry ice, which is all the rage these days for detailing undercarriages. Someone did a bang-up job on it, that's for sure. Looks great.

I just personally could not hack that interior, color matters to me, a lot.

I have no idea how anyone could drive a burgundy interior car. Any car. I know two people who bought the 911 they always wanted and immediately swapped out the burgundy interior, one for camel, one for black. Everything else about the cars ticked every box.

I am the odd ball that really likes the Can-Can red interior, or whatever the heck it was called back then.

I agree with the others, they were cool at $15-20K, no way I would spend more than a mint 996TT on a G body.

A nicely detailed but otherwise not extraordinary G50 coupe. Good compression and leak down numbers but its original engine, original transmission, and no mention of clutch replacement or a suspension refresh. Of course the current owners of these cars probably don’t drive them as cars anymore, so maybe the risk of expensive looming repairs isn’t a big factor?

I love the air cooled cars, but not for that money. I get a lot of joy out of my 230 HP 3,000 lb RX8, and it’s just a cheap used car.

Can-can red and burgundy are not remotely similar colors on a Porsche interior. CC red is lipstick red, it makes the inside of the car look like a crime scene. I would have a hard time even sitting in a CC red interior, it’s pretty bad. Burgundy is just ugly, not as loud.

Mine was a black '86 cab and had a lot black, so it wasn't all red.

My dad had an 85? Caddy El Dorado Biarritz that I called the inverted Red Velvet Cake. God awful red exterior with white interior. Ghastly. I just looked it up, V8 with a whopping 135 horse power. Once I was going to drive it and he asked me if 'I'd ever driven a car with this much power'. That question lives on in our family to this day.

The interior on the BAT car is equally as horrible. Like 80s early 90s mauve color that was all the rage for house interior decorations.

If those cars were in my garage, I'd sell the 993 (I prefer the 911, and I suspect it's harder to replace) and the BMW and pick up a cheap boxster, cayman or macan. A replaceable driver that I wouldn't worry about parking in a public lot.

I'm leaning towards selling one of the 911s and the BMW E46 and getting a 997. Then I'd be down to three cars instead of four. Not sure which Porsche... the 911 or the 993. I love the classic shape of the 3.2 911 but the 993 is the nicer driving car (and the pinnacle of air cooled production cars).

I feel like the 993 is far closer in driving experience to the 997 than it is the G-body 911. Me personally I like cars that are noticeably different, at least when I’ve been lucky enough to have multiple fun cars in my garage.
