Loved this movie and saw it in the theater when it first came out. Loved the music so much I bought the CD soundtrack & still listen to it often. Redford was of course amazing........

I think I’ll watch 3 days of the condor and sneakers tonight. Sundance is no more. The world is a sadder place

She was hot back in the day!
--- I was reading about his personal life. He had mild Polio as a kid and just like everyone else lots of tragedy mixed in with some good times.

My favorite Redford story was told by Mike Nichols. Nichols cast young Redford in his Broadway production of “Barefoot in the Park” in 1963 when both were young and building their careers.
A few years later, Nichols got signed to direct a pretty big Hollywood film, “The Graduate.” Redford wanted very much to audition for the lead role but his old pal told him that he simply wasn’t right for the role. “Why not?” pleaded Redford, like a typical struggling actor. As Nichols tells it, he asked Redford, “have you ever struck out with a girl?” Redford answered, “in what way?” ”And he was being serious!!” said Nichols, roaring with laughter.

Ordinary People was released in 1980, it swept the Oscars in the spring of 1981. My mom's friend, Judy Guest, wrote the book and it was all a big deal around our house and Minneapolis in general at the time when Redford optioned it and made the film.
It came out better than anyone could have imagined, he was a genius as a director. He got the best performances of their lives from each and every actor, IMO. The casting of MTM was a stoke of brilliance. A friend who worked on the film told me at the time that Redford knew her and knew what a biotch she really was, still not sure if I believe that but she was incredible. She is like a saint in Mpls, with a statue downtown on the Nicolet Mall, etc...

I watched Downhill Racer tonight. I gotta say, I didn't think it was very good.
