"Alter kaker" is a Yiddish term for an elderly man, often used to mean "old fart," "old fogey," or "crotchety old man". Literally, it translates to "old defecator," but it can be used both affectionately and critically to describe someone who is cranky, fussy, or out of touch. (Google AI overview)

I love it! Except for my kid(s), I would be so out of touch.

Spelling variant. Maybe the "proper" way?

I sent alter kaker to a way back girlfriend who would know. She loves the term and sent me a different spelling. FWIW.

We should see if we can get a volume purchase discount on the hat.

Yesterday was a rehab session at the local hospital for me. Trying to move from walker to cane, trying to gain leg strength and balance, etc. As I was huffing & puffing to do 5 minutes on a reclining bike type machine, on a treadmill, a local girl, maybe 14-15, was running full tilt, working on a stress fracture according to her rightfully proud mom. At the end of her 5 minutes, she wasn't even breathing hard, heard the therapist she was working with say her pulse was 79. Definitely NOT one of the obese kids Bobby Kennedy talks about. I was impressed...May she have a good career in women's sports and live a long, happy, and active life.

There I was, 82 trips around the sun, hoping for more nerves to repair, working at just being able to function normally. It was damned hard to not let the old man in, as the song goes...

I took an early retirement at 64 after my wife passed away over 3 years ago. It was a period of extreme grief that I needed to process. I didn’t know what I was going to do with the rest of my life. But, life along with my wife figured that out for me. Before she died, my wife told me to “go out and meet new people and have fun”. Eventually, I took that to heart and accidently discovered how I would be spending this next chapter in my life.

I am actively involved in a part of our culture that I had never experienced. It is heavily populated by individuals that are of the age where they could be my children’s children. Many of whom have become dear friends. So, I regularly hang out with people that are 40+ years younger than me. I have fully accepted that I am the old guy and actually embrace it.

I’m an old guy, but being part of a creative community keeps me active, alive, invigorated and feeling young. What's the saying? You are as young as you feel.

The oldE tag came about when I joined the PP crowd 25 years ago to get help fixing the problems with the '69 911E I had acquired. I was only 46 at the time. It was the oldE (but not a good E).

The haircut places around here all give a senior discount....most always $3

I never get asked if I am eligible...which I understand. Sometimes when paying, I will mention it because it's going up everytime I pay. They usually come back with "You sure don't look to be 72"
I feel good when leaving.

I don't mind being older. I just don't want to become an "old fart".

A few weeks ago I had three women, at separate occasions, ask me if anyone had ever said I looked like Harrison Ford. I started growing my beard for the winter.

I had an ex who had a big thing about Harrison Ford. She used to mention him multiple times an evening. Her name's Leanne and I could probably find a phone number for you LOL

I'm not entirely sure they meant it as a compliment. Have you seen recent pictures of Ford? He don't look so good!

I have always said and continue to maintain to this day that while I can't avoid aging, I shall never grow old.

Most of you know what I have accomplished and I am proud of that. The take away of it all which has nothing to do with age is when you stop trying that's when you start dying.

I really don't mind being old. The alternative is a whole lot worse.

I'm much the same guy but get a lot less done in a day.
